I've read conflicting reports on Spyderco Jots on the forum and was wondering if I could get a little clarification. Here's what I've gotten from everybody else: micarta's fit/finish off, handles not for everybody, hard to open..etc etc. Are the worth $90? Thanks for all the help and opinions. God bless you and America.

First off, it's a collector's item, so you're paying in part the cost of owning something that was limited in production, and is in somewhat high demand of spyderco collectors.
Note: it wasn't actually a limited production knife, it just wasn't that popular at the time it was released, but I love mine!

Steelscount30,
I am not sure where you getting your information about poor quality of Khalsa.
Mine does not have any blade play, fit and finish are excellent. I have medium size hand and it fits it perfectly. It might not be the best utility knife, but I do not think it was designed to be one…
I would be more than happy to pay $90 for NIB Khalsa, and so should you in my opinion…:) if you have even slightest interest in that model.
Get it while you can:)
WhyNot

Don't own a Kahlsa, never have, so can't comment directly on the quality of those. But here, for what it's worth, is an online forum fact of life. If you manufacture 10,000 of something excellent, you will be lucky if 20 happy owners go online and report how great it is. But if 10 out of that 10,000 are lemons, you can bet your ass every last one of those ten will be groused about online for years to come.

Will throw in another, again FWIW. Anytime you purchase anything on the "secondary market" you run the risk that what you are puchasing was the "second best", or worse, of several specimens which another collector purchased just so he could "cherry pick" the best one for himself. Lemons, in particular, have a nasty habit of being passed from one dissatified owner to the next.

I did own one, if you want it as a collecting knife it's probably worth $90. If you want it as a EDC or regular use knife, I would say it's not. My primary issue was that it was quite wide and took up more pocket room then I cared for.

It is my understanding that Jot's knife was the inspiration for the Gunting. Bob Taylor showed me how, by opening Jot's knife on my chin. Then he made the "Escalator" as a Round Eye product. Spyderco bought the rights to make the Gunting from Bob.

Bob's oppening the knife on my chin was actually a nervous moment, but he is very skilled and had demonstrated that skill to me previously.

Hey thanks for the different opinions...I really like the looks and from a post here a few months ago I guess I got the wrong general impression. None of my Spydercos have ever had a fit and finish issue, though I have read a few cases on the forums. I'll probably pick it up if I can. Thanks Sal for posting on the forums. Even as a young Scout I can appreciate all you do to get the opinion of those who buy and use your products and I thank you for being such an upstanding and outstanding maker. God bless you all and America.

The Jot Khalsa model is truly a candidate for the Spyder Hall Of Fame>> this is if they ever have a Hall of Fame :)

The blade and handle were a most unusual but ingenious design. I had the pleasure/priviledge of meeting Mr. Jot Khalsa at 3 of the BLADE shows. Every time I got to chat with him he was a decent and accomodating guy.

It was one of the very last of the blades out of the GIN-1 era. The handle fit me perfect and the blade design was truly one of a kind. I do hope that Mr. Khalsa and the Great Spyder Factory collaborate on another great blade. It's about time ;)

I have a PE Jot Singh Khalsa and it has excellent fit & finish.

As mentioned for EDC, it is wide & does take up a lot more pocket room that similar length folders.

I have never seen the spyderco jot but have always wanted one. I do have to agree with jdspydo that their should be another collaboration with Jot Singh Khalsa. I have seen his website and the work is truly inspirational in every since.

if ya can get one for $90 and want it for a collection, go for it.

if ya are looking for something to actually carry/use, i would pass, the F&F is ok as it is on all spydies, it was my experience that the pronounced horn would catch on my fingers everytime i went into my pocket, and start opening up, not a good thing. barring tightening down the pivot real tight, imho this is a design flaw and makes the knife not safe to carry unless its in a sheath, and imho its just too small for that.

same thing goes for the gunting imho, it did the same thing when i carried it in a pocket. at least bram will tell ya its supposed to be carried in a sheath vs in a pocket, or ya have to tighten the pivot down REALLY tight.

imho there are probably 100 other knives i would rather have for edc vs a kahlsa, it was my 1st spyderco ever FWIW, i am glad i didnt let that influence me on further purchases from spyderco, most all there stuff is top notch, but i didnt like the khalsa myself and would never reccomend it to anyone.

as far as the hall of fame, well thats debatable imho lol. folks who want a reintro of the khalsa mystify me, makes me wonder if they have ever carried one of the things. imho its probably the very last spydie i would reccomend for reintro, the absolute very last.

its disco'd, and imho thats exactly where it should be.

I'm with ya on that one. Nice to look at but pretty unimpressive in any other department. I would take one modern day Spyderco over any three Jots.

But my opinion might be influenced by the lemon those cursed cherry picking collectors pawned off on me.

Something that bugs me because it's NEVER mentioned is that the Jot is a superior liner lock.
WHY? because the release mechanism is not in the way of your fingers. It is directly below the first finger notch, making it much safer than most. YMMV.
