Allright.
Time for what I think is the first ever Journeyman Smith knife in the hat!:D

Here is what I thought we could do.
I would like to try and make it a good size knife...at least 12" fighter/Bowie, some nice wood, bone, stag...something natural. Fittings and blade steel...your choice. The knife should also have a sheath.
If you want to go the extra mile and do damascus and ivory I won't complain.;):D
Of course this knife should be a forged blade and include your J.S mark.

As far as a time frame how does 5-6 months sound? Puts us around the end of November or the first of the year. Still gives the M.S hopefuls time to work.

Who's in?
I'm in.:D

Count me in Mace. A 12" or so fighter/ bowie or something similar. Works for me. We will see what shows up.

Hi Friends,

I'm a newbie and watching what you guys do with grateful awe. Mind explaining to me what 'in the hat means?'

Thanks so much and all the best, Phil

Phil,
It's kinda like everything gets tossed in a hat and then you pull one out and it's yours. In this case I will put all the names in a hat...pull a name, that guy will send his knife to the next name pulled and so on down the line. The last name pulled will send to the first name. Sometimes at hammer-ins or meetings they will have an IITH....Iron/Item in the hat.

I've been thinking about this idea for a while and figured now was a good time to do it. Whenever I go to a show I always see friends knives that I want but never seem to have the extra $$$ to buy one. This way it's kind of like making yourself a sweet knife.
My prediction is that because this is a J.S. KITH these knives will be VERY sweet!:D We all know our knives are going to go to someone who will look them over REAL good and none of us want to disapoint.;)

Please spread the word fellas, We got 5 J.S. on board now, but I would love to have 10+:D
Mace

P.S Anyone have a preference to an end date? End of November?

Drop my name in the hat!

I do have a suggestion, only add names to the hat after that particular maker lets you know he has finished his or her knife. This cuts down on heart burn if events get in the way of someone finishing his knife.

You don't have to be crazy to make hand made knives, but it does help.

Hey fellas,
I wanted to give this thread a bump and see if any of you have been working on anything. If so feel free to post a pic or two....don't show everything if you don't want(teaser pics are great fun):D Maybe we can fire up this thread and get a couple more guys to join in.
I was thinking of an end date...how about December 7th(pearl harbor day)...(also was my mom's b-day);) Let me know if you have issues with that.

I have been tossing ideas around in my head and keep picking up blades in my shop and saying...ok I'll use this one...no maybe this one....etc...
So I think what ever I make it will be a surprise. Boy I love surprises!:D

Mace, I'll admit two things -
1.) I have wondered where this thread went and if there has been any progress or participation.
2.) I said I'd play and I haven't accomplished a friggin' thing! I've got the Ohio Show at the end of this month that I've been working on as well as customer stuff.
I will focus on something during the month of Dec.

So all of you JS knifesmiths are making knives to give to us that are not JS yet right!!!

Hey Fellas,
I hope everyone is still on board with this KITH. I have not heard from anyone and am wondering if the December 7th deadline is still realistic. I for one could use some extra time...does the first of the year sound better?

If all you guys that said you were going to play could please respond to this I would appreciate it very much. I know we are all busy, so I would like to make this accomidating to everyone.
And if anyone has anything to show...please do.
Looking foward to hearing from you.
Mace

I would have liked to join in Mace, but I knew I wouldn't be able to make the deadline unless it was like 2 years down the road, lol :)

I think it's a really cool idea! But I think this would be MUCH cooler if you all LITERALLY put the knives in a hat and draw them out!!!! :D :p

Mace, ol' pal, I'm responding out of courtesy. I got pounded with Xmas "things" to do and will be lucky to get them all completed in time.
Now, I've got a gig in Feb and March!
Any extra time will be appreciated.

Nick,
I'm fine with your idea...as long as the hats on YOUR head!:D

I was wondering if the time frame would work. Two years is too long....hope to be doing an MS kith by then.;)

Maybe we can come up with a new date to shoot for. (maybe even one you might be able to meet Nick;))

Still would like to hear from the rest of you....what say you all?
Mace
