Just passed my journeyman smith test with Shawn Mc Intyre and thought I'd share it with you all. The pine we have here is a lot harder than the stuff you have over there. I dont think I could have got a harder piece if I had tried. Thanks for looking.

Geesh, that almost looked like work...all that chopping sure makes a fella appreciate a saw.
Nice even bend.
Congrats!

It always makes me cringe, those bent blades. I understand the principle of proper ht and flex vs break but still...it feels like a waste to me, sorry. Congrats!

Ah come now princess harden up will ya. if ya wern't standin on yer head and choppin fourbtwos instead of 2x4's then youd a said it was too easy. And If ya handn't had that OLD guy do your chopping it would a went faster.

Ha Ha. Don't know where that OLD guy came from, he just takes over everything I do. Bill at least we call it what it is ! It's a 4b2 not a two by four! :D
Cheers Keith

Congrats Keith!! Well done. My heart was beating a little watching the bend test even though I knew the out come.:-) Good luck in Atlanta.

Congratulations Keith. You must have similar pine like that in Nicaragua, tough stuff. That was an impressive performance! Hope to meet you in Atlanta and see your knives.

Watched the video. Nice touch matching your shirt to your proctor's jacket. :) I'm sure you would have passed regardless.

Congrats.

Beautiful bend test Keith. That's an example of great heat treat control, with the return to a fair arc.

( Hi Shawn..)

Great job Keith. Will you be testing in Atlanta or San Antonio? Either way keep us updated and share what you come up with.

If it isn't inappropriate to ask in this thread...I'm wondering, wouldn't the execution of a well executed distil taper (and even the profile) play as an important role in achieving such a graduated bend?
