Joy of Cooking

Just found out last night they reference The Joy of Cooking in a New Riders of the Purple Sage song called "Lonesome L.A. Cowboy". Todd thought I'd had too much to drink until I rewound it to prove my sanity.

I'm constantly amazed at how far off topic this sub-forum gets. You do have mods here right?:D

If you don't like how things are run, you are welcome to mosey on along. I hear Traditional is pretty strict if that's what you're after.

Rewound? Like a Tape? In other circumstances, that could be used to prove insanity...
:)

The river store. Also got my copy signed by Uncle E himself over the BeckerWest weekend. Part of the Wife's Xmas gift.

I wonder if Uncle E would sign about a half dozen copies if I bought the 75th Anniversary Edition for family gifts? ....

I suppose if you go to his annual? Beckerhead East gathering, he would; that was my intention this year, to have him autograph a few editions I have, but I was having second thoughts about having to share a latrine or hole in the ground with total strangers; besides, I just couldn't get the sounds of banjos playing out of my head....talk about auditory hallucinations.:D

If you're into preparing and cooking wild game and native plants the older editions of J of C are superior to the 'urban' revisions that are out there now.

The question is.... Is there a Beckerhead Texas gathering and, if not, why not? Except I guess this is two questions. Plus I gotta become a Beckerhead first.

Just get yourself to a gathering. I took a chance and went to the Northeast Gathering; I didn't have my BH# yet. Trailbum and his family were gracious hosts, everyone I met was friendly and even before I went I was pleasantly surprised...Dresnor contacted me to make sure my kids were OK with him bringing his dog. My girls (8 & 12) had a blast, the food was great and did I mention how helpful and friendly everyone was? I only wished that I'd gone for the whole three days. Next year, I will. You should, too, if you can find one close enough to home. I don't think there is a better bunch of knife knuts to hang out with, anywhere.

I tried to get an impromptu dinner meeting a while back but 3 days notice was insufficient notice for anything to gel. I'm gonna try again after the holidays. I'm expecting the first one to be more of an informal thing where we get to know "the locals". Maybe a Saturday or Monday holiday when people have a little more time to travel. We don't have a bunch in any one location so most everyone will have to travel somewhat. More to follow later.
