• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

JRE-EMS Sharpening kit

I purchased it for my sharpening needs when it was released, still is the best tool I have used for convex sharpening.

Can it be used without a vice? The shape looks like it would be difficult to set it on a bench and use like a bench-stone, I have been looking into getting one of these myself.
Thanks

This is actually a hand-held sanding block, as would ordinarily be used for prep work for painting or automotive finishing, just cleverly re-marketed to knife sharpening. Always looked like a decent kit, but the dedicated-use handle shape is what put me off of it. I like to use hand-held blocks for sharpening, but mine are just blocks of wood which could be just as easily laid on a bench. I'd think the functional equivalent of the JRE kit could be done with a simple block of wood, some neoprene for the 'pad', a piece of leather and some sandpaper and adhesive. A lot cheaper that way too.
