I got one of these recently for the shop. it's bigger and more solidly mounted up than the travel kits and pocket strops.
But hooooo damn!
Basically, it's 4 strops mounted on a piece of wood. In descending order of agressiveness, it starts with black compound, green compound, pink compound, and bare leather.
I've been loving it the past few months and it's done wonders for my edges. Quick and easy daily touchups on my EDC knives, too.
As it happens, it works wonderfully on the hybrid convex scandi grinds I've been doing. So, for S&G I decided to stress test the strop a bit. This is a slightly flat edge (won't cut hair) knife, with the grind at 400 grit:
I set myself a 20 minute limit with the strop bat-
(excuse the pictures, too much shiny makes my camera barf all of a sudden.)
shaving sharp from tip to ricasso. and shiny!
Incidentally, pretty large blocks of compound come with the strop bat.
I know we're often focussed on the 3 ounce pocket solution, but if you have a home, you might want to grab one of these. Me? I'm going to try and talk them into making me some "pro shop" mods- 2x14 inches, single sided, on 2 inch high blocks for bench mounting. But, hey- I have to do this almost every day
In the meantime, the strop bat is holding up to shop duty cycles.
