I thought this might be as good a place as any to reach as many JS and MS applicants in one spot as I could.
I only toss this out there as an idea that might help you remember the Big Day!
I kept all of the paper work invilved in getting my JS certification and made a collage that hangs in my living room.
It includes the Application for testing, that also has the Performance date/and MS tester signature.
As well, the 6 report cards from the Judges.
The Blade Show name tag with table nunmber and year.
The ABS year membership card.
And, the Certificate itself.
Don't throw away those little pieces of paper! They were REALLY expensive!
Hang a photo of your knives right next to it and it'll be with you always.
Good luck!

karl....i love it!....i have always wondered why everyone sells their test knives....i don't know if i could ever do that.....anyway-could u share with what is written on the judges cards....do they just give u a number in different categories-say fit and finish 1 to 10 or?.....do they write out flaws or what u could do better?....thanks for any input....ryan

OK - there are 6 judges that each look at all of your knives.
Each one has a card to fill out.
On each of those cards it says:
Handle______________
Blade_______________
Overall Fit___________
Passed______________
Not every Judge makes a comment in each of the categories. I had one judge who only signed it and checked Passed____</____.
Of the other Judges, I got "Good, Good, Great Job, Good Job, 6 check marks, Good Job, Good work, X, and Nice work, but watch finish.
4 of my five were take-downs, which had never happened at the JS level. Including the Performance knife as well.
So when you consider that a take-down has no glue or JB weld or epoxy to "fill" gaps or joints, I did pretty good with no derogatory comments.
It was a friggin' hoot!
It was an adrenaline rush for sure.

karl...was it hard for u to sell your test knives?...well i'm assuming that u sold them....i am guessing for alot of smiths it's a financial decision too....i know how hard it must be to "make it".....ryan

Neat way to display your trek to JS/MS designations. They say that the journey is what its all about.....but posterity has its place as well...helps you re-live the trip!

Nice Collage Karl.

P.S.

Love your take-downs, simple designs, well thought out, excellent execution.
