This is the JSP Forum, and I know we have kind of assimulated it into Rearic and Company Implenments of Destruction (I am major league guilty of that), so lets get so discussion about the JSP products from James S. Piorek and Company. I personally don't have the honor of owning any of his knives, but would like to hear some reviews. I am going to purchase a V-Gar belt and one of those Bandandos to wear. Let me know what you think of these things, and if anybody has any cool stories of their using them (NOTHING ILLEGAL PLEASE), we would love to hear and discuss them.
Thank you and lets get talking JSP.
Reed

Reed,
I purchased my bandando from James when they first came out, I was on the phone with him placing an order when he told me about them and I said "sure, send me one in basic black" ...I LOVE it! It is such an unobtrusive yet effective tool. I practice with mine more as a trapping implement than a flexible weapon, although with a Pocket Meteor or any such weight in the "pocket" it sure comes to life... I tend to carry them both as a pair.

You will like your JSP products! :)

I feel strongly that the Bandando is nothing less than a "must have" for travelling. I am reminded of The Hichhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the recommendation to always have a towel. The Bandando's versatility make it an everyday carry/wear item that can blend into many environments. I have taken mine on my domestic travels (haven't had a chance to go abroad recently, unless you count the U.S.V.I.) and it works as everything from headcover, sweatband, sunscreen, wallet, etc. Good ole' absorbent cotton is very handy when you're in the company of a baby.:barf:
My favorite favorite use is as a wallet when I would carry papers, and 7-10 dollar coins. Nice heft. Easily deployable from any pocket I carried it in. Nothing exciting has happened other than responses from people who saw it as nothing more than a casual wallet.
I like the fact that it is generously sized , which make it well suited as a trauma bandage, cravat, sling, etc.

It is the only product that can also be used to stop bleeding:D

The Bandando = Practically Invisible.

We have always had, in the words of another Bladeforums Member who said it in here, "That OSS Vibe going on..." :D

I don't see anything wrong with having multiple discussions going on with regard to non-JSP Material. The reason for that is, simply, James is not interested in making the three basic Projects that have evolved from the forum as of late. Ti-Pencil, Ti-Pen and the possibility of a Ti-Ju-jo Device, something similar to that.

You guys don't think I just came up with this stuff in a month, do ya?

James does not lathe his Ti-Sticks. James does an excellent job doing what he does. Obviously, or I would not be here and spend time to his stuff.

James uses drill presses and belt grinders, to simply make some of the finest Titanium Impact Weapons that are currently being made.

Because of this reality, two of the three Projects we have been bouncing around, namely the Ti-Ju-jo Device and the Ti-Pen, James cannot make because he is not a Machinist.

The Ti-Pencil and a Triangular Sleeve Dagger, the Line Drawings, were given to him over a year ago and he has no interest in doing them.

So, there is no competition going on. People have contacted me, with some caution and more than enough respect, and said they did not feel right about discussing it in here.

I assured them that particular line of thinking was proper, but there is no competition if James does not want to make something in particular.

The JSP Forum, a long time ago, developed a particular flavor and I consciously cultivated that aura in here for a reason. The "flavor" was one of Covert Weapons, because James not only specializes in Edged Weapons, but Covert Edged, Impact and Flexible Weapons.

Three things in business, location, location, location.

In here, exposure, exposure, exposure.

Still getting the exposure. So much in fact that James has placed a freeze on Custom Orders for some time to come because of the deluge. That is a GOOD thing.

These "Mini-Projects" that have erupted in here, from the various discussions on extremely exotic and covert weapons have been a benefit to James.

The JSP Forum is different from any other Forum because of this.

I look at it as a Virtual Library where anyone can come to discuss the History of these things, and the practical application of them, simply to study, use or discuss.

That's the beauty of it. And things have obviously grown out of that. The Forum is truly a "FORUM," in the true sense of the word. It has grown beyond a box. But it is still not a "popular forum" here at BFC.

The reason for that is, there are not many people who are into these things. They do not understand or they think that timeless concepts of Covert Weapons cannot be applied.

Perhaps they think Flexible Weapons are nonsense. Many do. I don't have to debate that, and they don't have to come here to challenge that.

Just needed to make a small "Mission Statement." All of this keeps the Forum a very Exotic One, and I like that. And it gives James exposure and that is why any Maker has a Forum.

Have you guys used the search feature for past info on the Bandando and V-Gar?

Good stuff and I'm taking some pictures to add various ideas and whatnot. Writing more stuff for the future if you are interested.

Reed, I won't lie, I like JSP's carry systems more than the blades (though I did own a pre-pro CC blade once and may go back).

I've done reviews on the V2 belt, Horizontal Belt Sleeve, SCP Checkbook (gave as a gift).

I've seen up close the Manrikigarrote, CC wallets, Little Angel knife and Spinal Back Up 2.

I own a V2 belt (worn everyday for 2 years), 2 Horizontal Belt Sleeves, a V-Stat Bag, and a Wing Bag. I may get a Bandando.:p

Town Sergeant and SlopFoot,
Thanks, those are the main reasons I am getting one.

Smoke,
Their carry systems rock, especially the spinal backup. Does your V2 feel to bulk, is it really thick? I don't think it is, but I haven't been able to handle one yet.

Steve, those keychains are definitely sweet, but I am holding out for Don's keychain tube.

Don,
I don't know James, but I think he is a reasonable guy, and would understand our projects covert theme going along with his stuff. Its just that I looked in the forum and all there was was our stuff and no discussion of JSP products, so I am trying to rekindle the fire.

Take care guys,
Reed

I understand. James has literally been inundated with orders, etc., and that has led to a little bit of stagnation in the "talking about this stuff" department.

You can only go over the same thing so many times!

BUT...BUT...

Good piece coming later today, a cool pictorial I have put together on Fighting Bandanas. :D

Reed, my belt doesn't feel and isn't too thick or thin. I didn't get a Manrikigarrote with my belt but it wouldn't have really mattered if I did in terms of comfort. BTW, the Manrikigarrote's tear drop is slightly curved so it doesn't jab against the belt. I found the piece stiffer than expected and would probably fight with it more than the Bandando but I haven't tried the Bandando yet. :)

The belt has lost some stiffness but it still works pretty well. I really like my Horizontal Belt Sleeves, which allow me to carry 2 pens or a thin folder or FB without leaving holes in pockets and give me a backup weapon to my knives.

The V-Stat bag and Wing Bag are great though I did wish they came with shoulder or chest straps and a more robust suspender clasp. When I need to carry a lot, I go with the V-Stat and folks with small guns particularly snub revolvers will like the side pockets and flashlight and pen/sharpener/etc. attachment.

The Wing Bag is more or less EDC for my Palm Pilot and the hidden velcro pocket is really well stitched though I haven't found a use for it yet.

I'll admit I'm in CC Blade denial as I carry a Spydercard in my wallet. I do like the idea of the CC Blade but I would most likely use it as a sheeple knife. I have startled folks with small folders and a wallet knife doesn't seem as scary.

Sorry for the long answer but when I meet other knife nuts I find that I've got more JSP gear than they do as some are afraid to take a leap. In fact I almost ran out of breath describing the V-Stat bag which is like Lego system. I may one day get the mother of JSP bags in the PWA/Portable Weapons Attache which would probably require an inaugural address to describe. :)

I have a beautifully made, striped 12" Wang Bo (BTW, that makes a great pick-up line!!)...
I lost the sheath for it (don't ask!)...someday I'm gonna get a really cool "carry anywhere" sheath set-up; maybe from Skunkworks. It has the arrow-point tip on it, nasty looking but incredibly strong!

Kelt,

You know James makes two other sheaths for that Wang Bo, right? The Leg Harness was like the First Gen Sheath. Now there is an IWB Stick Courier and a black nylon sheath that has a snap and strap on the end, you can hang it off of a backpack's shoulder strap, etc., and dump the stick in the sheath, in the bag...

Guys thanks for the replies.

Call me ignant, but does the V-stat bag have enough room for a pda and other junk? If so, that is going on my list ahead of the V belt.
I just have to remember when I go to all these cool sites, that I am poor. Maybe I ought to get my old job back with that drug dealer. Oh well, at least the cops don't knock down my front door every other day anymore.

Reed

Reed, I can put a PDA, Streamlight Scorpion, a 35mm film canister, and a Fisher Space Pen in the main compartment alone of a V Stat and still have little room for another canister, pen, or folder.

That was my EDC for awhile and again, this is without the flashlight and pen attachment and use of the 2 other side compartments.

Sorry Don, too much of that anodizing :) -inside joke, but I will explain it someday.

Smoke,
You have just sold me on that, I was going to start wearing vests, but as I am in LV, this thing will be lighter on the hotter days.

Thanks guys,
Reed

Like Sir Rearic said, I always considered the JSP forums as having a certain flavour - the whole clandestine OSS subgenre that is directly related to JSP and - besides from broadening the field of learning I think attratcts liekminded peoiple who would really enjoy JSP products. SO even if we don't talk about the products themselves we are assembling people who can really enjoy this little niche. WHich I find more enjoyable than a lot of the heated (and sometimees repetitive) stuff you find in other forums..

JSP Carrying systems are the best. No doubt about it. My koppo keychain has been a constant companion since I got it. Although I haven't been here in a while, it seems to me that the new Rearic inspired toys go hand in hand with JSP stuff. It's not like anyones trying to take away from JSP.

Associate shoulder harness. Extremely well designed and thought out and perfectly executed. Excellent product. Also a very good man, IMHO.
