I have a Spinal Backup 2 if anyone is interested.
The SB2 is completely constructed of kydex except for the straps while the SB3 only has a kydex plate for where the knife is and the rest is cordura making it alot more comfortable. The SB3's "plate" for holding knives is much more sturdy too.
Another feature that the SB3 has is dual release straps while the SB2 only has one. You can take the SB3 off while you have a shirt on over it but you cannot do it with the SB2.
The SB2 still works well however. The SB3 is just more comfortable.

Also, from the pictures on the web site, it looks like the SB3 has an extra nylon strap that clips the back plate down to the pants where lies the small of the back.
