Not to start a war...

But soon I'm going to buy either one.. They both seem to be outstanding knives but at the moment I just can justify spending the extra on the Junglas other then their Awesome warranty (which has recently been swaying my decisions)..

Looking for a comparison from those of you who have both, which do you prefer and why?

Thanks,

Rob

Get the Junglas.

The Junglas has a much more comfy handle than the RTAK, unless you have gorilla hands. Your hands will thank you for the Junglas.

I couldn't justify the extra cost either, so I have the RTAKII.

I'm not quite sure what that picture of the chopping is supposed to show; the knife on the right is not an RTAKII.
The picture of the group is misleading as well. The RTAKII is just a bit longer when set side by side in other photos I've seen.

It's the same steel, same thickness, the RTAKII is FFG ground instead of almost FFG, has a finger choil, and you can buy two or more for the same price as the Junglas and sheath.

As far as the handle goes; my RTAKII isn't bad, but the Junglas does look more rounded.
That being said; I rarely use a hard use knife without gloves anyway.

But if money isn't an issue, I don't think you can go wrong with either.
Better yet; do what Horn Dog did and get both.

nice pic..

wow !! there is quite a difference, did you use your weak hand with the rtak?:D

FYI that isn't a RTAK in the picture of the two knives on the log....

Looks like a Busse of some sort..... the Junglas can really hold its own, even when compared to knives costing much more. And the sheath is better than most knives at any price. :D

I bought a Junglas and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Performance is about the same between the two.

I find the handle to be more comfortable on the Junglas and the sheath is head and shoulders better as well.

I'd be comfortable trusting either one though so if the money is the issue the RTAKII is a decent option.

hi i've got both the rtak2 and the junglas. laying the junglas on the rtak they are the same length. the sheath on the rtak was ok but not great i made a kydex one for it that worked much better for me. the grip on the rtak is more squared off and not as well fitted, kind of big too. its a good chopper and has done everything i wanted it to. the junglas grip is much more comfortable and better fitted, and the heat treat is much much better ontario is hit and miss on the heat treat. the sheath is much better on the junglas as well with a lot of options to come.

so both knives are good, warranty and heat treat and sheath on the junglas are head and shoulders over the rtak.

take it easy

I've got both, and both will take a decent beating. Using them as small machetes, the edges will take a pounding, but the 1095 handles it well, and cleans up nicks and dings easy. The RTAK has large handles, as previously mentioned. I find them comfy to my hands. The Junglas however, molds into your hand. The sheath is far far better on the junglas. The RTAK II is absolutely a value not to be passed up on. The junglas is a great knife system that i prefer to carry.

The Busse Bushwacker, RTAK, RTAK II, and Junglas all perform very closely in chopping. In slashing vegetation, I prefer the Junglas to the others. It just seems better balanced and has the most comfortable handle. I included the Busse in the photos because it is currently available and it is the same type of knife as the RTAKs and Junglas. So if you think the Junglas is too costly, check out the Busse price and you won't feel bad at all abut buying the Junglas. Not saying that the the Junglas is the equal of the Busse, but for what most of us do with such a knife, it works just as well.

I read that the Junglas is a bit thinner than the RTAK-2, would make it better for machete like chopping. I have and love the RTAK-2 and the Junglas is tempting too!

I thought we agreed that we wouldn't talk about that ever again. Man, guy makes a mistake one time and you can't let him live it down.

That's what I'm thinking... hmm, hmm, I only intend to buy one so I may just buy the Junglas, but it wont be for another month or so as of late I've bought to many knives and I'm fearful I may be cut with one by my wife if I buy another..:o

thanks for the comparisons and person experiences guys.
