The mighty BK10
No task to big:

Or to small:

My buddy called me to help him take out a dying pine tree.

I took out at least a 6ft section of branches with the BK9. It was a whole lot easier than using the chainsaw up there.

After the 9 took the branches down and made them a manageable size, the 13 cut the jute twine so I could wrap it up and take it all away in my truck.

That's a Camillus 9, my Kabar 9 hasn't chopped anything yet.

After all the branches were taken off we cut off 3ft sections of the trunk until there was no chance of it falling on a house.

I've got some poor quality vids I might post in another thread.

Here is my well used bk24 doing The most Demanding and Strenuous task I could ever ask from it. Removing the hospital band off my new daughter, 2 days old.

(There was a piece of plastic under our hands, as well as mine and the misses hands between her leg and the knife. She was in no more danger than using safety scissors.)

Last week Angie and I took a few days off and camped at Norris Dam State Park on the Clinch River. We were lucky enough to catch a couple trout, and we used my beloved stock BK-16 to prepare the entire meal...

Three fresh trout, one Russet potato, one sweet potato, one white onion, one garlic bulb and two jalapenos. Plus of course the BK16; in the top part of the pic you can see that I've been carrying it on the strap of my small backpack with a Leatherman Blast in the pocket... super handy for a day or weekend of tromping about in the boondocks.

tumblr_n8ym5vJCRf1t96jkdo1_1280.jpg

One of the many things I love about trout is that they're so easy to clean. Simply start at the anus and slit 'em right up the belly to the jaw (if it's a good-size one with more meat in the tail area, also slit back down from the anus so those extra tidbits are easy to get at with your fork or fingers). Then scoop out the innards and rinse well. There's no need to filet 'em unless they're really big; the skin will slide right off once they get hot and the bones are easy to pull out.

Anyway the point here is, we all know the BK-16 is sturdy and reliable for processing firewood and building a shelter... but it's also handy and keen enough to prep a very nice
meal... to me that's a hallmark of a truly effective camp/survival knife.

Reserve a couple spoonfuls of onion and garlic to place back inside each trout, then wrap them in foil. Slap the rest of the veg in a skillet with some butter, black pepper and
seasoned salt and get 'em over the hot coals... you started the fire about the same time you started prepping the food, right? ;)

tumblr_n8ym44jENA1t96jkdo1_1280.jpg

Now the veggies are essentially cooked and the taters are starting to get tender. Please note, I'm stirring the pan with the spine of the 16, not the edge. Now it's time to put the foil-wrapped fish right on the coals... it won't take long now...

tumblr_n8ym3kI3ME1t96jkdo1_1280.jpg

And here we are a few minutes later, ready to serve and enjoy. Delicious, nutritious, and just plain fun from start to finish :)

So, i was out today, and got to use my BK16 a bit. i am really liking it. i was looking for a spot to post the pics, and i guess this thread is as good as any. well, it in fact is better, since now i get a chance in this generous giveaway. thanks Moose.

i don't have any legit in-use pics, cuz it was just me... but try to imagine an Arnold Schwarzenegger lookin' dude with a BK16, and that's pretty close to what it looked like.

It started with breakfast...

I took my then girlfriend and now fiancé hiking and proposed to her in the middle of the woods next to a small waterfall. I used my BK24 to carve our initials into a tree right next to where I proposed to her so that we can always go back and relive the moment. The BK24 worked great and is a really memorable knife for me now. The carving isn't the greatest because is was raining and I was trying to hurry. Thanks for the giveaway!

Very sweet! I'm not all that into killing a tree just to show I was there... but hey, whatever works for ya ;)

See the Heart above the blade? And that little muskrat face below the + C?

Took a camping trip to Colorado with the family.

My BK16 lived on my hip while we were in site. It was useful to have it so accessible, but it sure didn't magically save our first attempt at using pie irons.

We have saying in our family: "Burned black! Just the way I like it!"
The teenager with the empty leg was willing to try a bite. But it was too burned even for him. (Pics of the more successful 2nd attempt are here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1205374-Colorado-Trip )

Stopped in Palo Duro Canyon on the way home. I hadn't ever seen it before. It was amazing.

Had my 11 handy for a quick picnic lunch.

I was in a "real life survival situation" last weekend. my friends and I went on hike in 94 degree heat. I carried extra water and a small watermelon for everybody. I like to entice my friends to go with me, so I try to make it as enjoyable as possible for them. I brought a beer with me to drink at the top and wouldn't you know it... "a real life survival situation" occurred!

I grab my beer and notice the tab to open the can was missing!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thankfully, the EsKabar came to the rescue!

Man, I keep loving the EsKabar more and more, each time I use it. Perfect hiking companion. People thought I was strange for hiking up a watermelon but there isn't a better treat on a hot day then a sweet juicy melon. We had a lot leftover and I couldn't hog all that goodness to ourselves, so we cut slices and offered them to other hikers. They loved the watermelon but thought it was strange that someone hiked it in. Lol. They don't know what they're missing!

My trip this week was to that exotic jungle locale known as my backyard. :( :D

First, a look at the mighty jungle that held the best fishing hole on earth captive.
Fishpond Cleanup Start.jpg

A second view from the side
Fishpond Cleanup Start2.jpg

Half-way through liberating the vegetation choke reservoir
Fishpond Cleanup Midway.jpg

Finally, the vegetation has been removed. Alas, the many years of detritus and neglect has caused the mighty fishing hole to become completely filled with debris and natural mulch. Excavation work is scheduled for the near future. Notice the archaeological implements found abandoned in a by-gone era.
Fishpond Cleanup Finished.jpg

And the mighty tools used in this expedition to the hinterland....
A Camillus era BK6 Patrol Machete and a Kabar BK9, logo-etched stripped edition
Fishpond Cleanup Beckers.jpg
The 6 was fantastic on grass, weeds, golden rod and giant ragweed up to about an inch in diameter.
I had to shift to the 9 when I encountered pecan trees, sage bushes, catalpas and elms. The 6 may have worked better on some of the smaller trees if I had had more swinging room to get a full swipe in. The shorter length and heavier weight of the 9 made it a better choice for cutting out overhanging limbs back in the brush.

Alrighty then........

July has fallen by the wayside and I must choose.......

Damn, I wish ya'll took crappy photos..........this is gonna be tough.

Thinking I might have to pull in Mrs. Moose and the Moosettes for backup.
