July Knife World

I like both articles.

The Case article reminds me of my grandfather. His first knife was a Case ordered through the Sears & Roebuck catalog in 1919 or 1920 (he was in Thatcher, AZ). I often wonder what tang stamp he got on that one.

I am more of a stamp collector, too. I appreciate a mint example, but I don't have the funds to buy them. My knife collection is similar to my coin collection - I feel that it has more history if it has seen some use.

Waynorth - Was that Ralph Brown HJ made by Ulster? The frame looks like a teardrop jack that I have from Ulster, and the propeller shield has exactly the same shape as several that I have from Ulster. Who designed that punch?

Lambertiana, that punch is often referred to as an Ulster punch, but information is sketchy. I haven't found a patent for that one yet. See page 182 of Levine's Guide IV for a picture of an Ulster with that punch..
The Ralph Brown company was a wholesaler circa 1910, and undoubtedly sub-contracted to other firms. The firm may have been short-lived, because knives with that tang stamp are scarce (ask pa knives).
