Jungalas - Rtak II

seems like a minor redesign and the Junglas cost about $70 more than an Rtak II. Wonder why it cost so much more for almost the same knife?

Better F&F, better quality, the warranty... and more importantly.. the name on the blade.

Just because two objects look similar doesn't make them the same. Needless to say there's a reason it costs more. If you think about it you're spending a reasonable price for a lifetime investment. If it's out of your price range or you just don't want to spend that much for the knife you could always check out the light machete. I'd think it would do just about anything you'd need the Junglas to do.

And the busse version is over twice the junglas. Gotta make your picks.

The junglas is a saber grind, and has a much diffrent handle than the rtak. Also the heat treat on the rowen blades is much better. With something that's most likely going to be used for splitting wood and getting torqued that's a significant upgrade. I don't have it in hand yet, so can't really go into more detail. All I can say is I have an RTAK II, and I can't wait to get a junglas. Less than 200 for a knife like this, I consider it a steal

^busse is a different steel, so that's not really a fair comparison

Aside from the companies are these basically similar knives?

Nope.

They look like they come from the same family, but they aren't even related.

Junglas is a better made knife, with a better warranty, from a company known for quality.

You aren't just paying for name when you buy something from ESEE.

The steel is HT'd better, the coating is better stuff, proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, held to higher standards of production. This is not to say that Ontario is crap, but it is merely saying they mass produce and allow for a larger amount of flaws. Sometimes the HT on their stuff is up in the air.

Do yourself a favor, save up the extra dough and spend it on the Junglas. Peace of mind is worth a few extra bucks. Especially in the form of ESEE's warranty.

Don't want to spend it on the Junglas? Then buy the Lite Machete. It looks like a real winner.

The RTAK handle is way too wide. The Junglas handle looks perfect. I can't wait to get one.

Whats the main difference between the Junglas and the Lite Machete? Why is the Junglas more expensive?

Whats the main difference between the Junglas and the Lite Machete? Why is the Junglas more expensive?
my understanding of the 2:
light machete is machete - i.e. a piece of stamped 1075 made in S. Am then shipped to the states to have micarta scales fitted to it. it comes with a very basic pouch sheath.

the Junglas is a 3/16" bar of 1095 steel machined in Idaho and given a very precise heat treatment, baked on epoxy powdercoat, and hand fitted micarta handles, molded kydex sheath and ballistic nylon molle compatible sheath system with pockets and pouches for gear. Sheath alone is likely worth the $70 difference between RTAK 2 & Junglas.

Ya the kydex sheath and cordura backing are a pretty nice addition compared to the RTAKII.

Comparing the Junglas to the RTAK would be the same as comparing any other 10" knife to the RTAK. Different companies, different blade grind, different handle design, different sheathing system, different manufacturing standards, different warranty, etc. The only thing that is the same would be the people who designed both the Junglas and the RTAK. The RTAK will never be produced by ESEE.
