Jungalas - Rtak II

I think I saw some kydex in a shot show photo on woodsmonkey. Not sure on that, it was just on the side of a photo.

I'd assume it's the usual esee style fold over like the four and five sheaths

the Kydex was at SHOT show, the rest of the sheath system is in final design stages - according to Shotty they had a sample there that needed a few tweaks, but didn't get any pics of it.

If you look back a few months or a year or so the RTAK WAS the big knife of choice around here! Things have changed and a new "better" manufacture was brought in. I will wait a while to see how the Junglas comes in and weight the differences. I really like my other "Rat Cutlery" knives and wouldn't mind having a Junglas but I'm not going to spend that kind of money just to get in on the band wagon. I have a cold steel trail master that I've had for 20+ years and never used it so I guess I really don't need another big knife.

Eh. Liking a company products isn't bandwagoning. Rtaks and bks were there knife of choice due to a lack of a large knife option from Rat. Now that they have one, it's obvious we're going to clamor over it. As for price, Im more than comfortable with 170. Jeff always said from the first rc10 posts it'd be an overpriced machete. I was honestly expecting it to be more.

Didn't want to create strife. Just was curious because I assumed they were similar and designed by the same guys.

On a different note..if anyone wants to sell their RTAK II ..I'd be game. I need an inexpensive woods chopper. Don't really have the $170 to shell our for the Junglas though it looks very nice.

nothing wrong with the CS ,use what works for you & your budget.....

I wonder why no choil on the Jungalas like on the RTAK II? It works great on the RTAK for lighter work, makes the weight disappear.

no strife - it was a fair question, especially concerning the similarity in names and designers. :)
if the Junglas is out of your budget, there's nothing wrong with buying a BK9 from Ka-Bar, if the scales fit your hand, or the CS Trailmaster.

The junglas is way too expensive.
I'm looking at the BK-9 right now... much better value in my opinion

Different strokes, for different folks. I, personally, do not think that. I believe the price is fine. Of course, that is because I know I will use it, and use it hard. The Sheath it comes with (Can't think of everything, or would have been in my earlier post) along with the heat treat, and all that make it worth it to me.

As a side not, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a BK9. It is also a great blade.

Probably in an effort to encourage people NOT to use a 14 foot long chopper to do "light work".

If you get the optional micarta scales for the BK9 you're at around $110. The sheath is still a step down from the Junglas though as far as I can tell from the pics. So if you upgrade the sheath the pricing is pretty close to the Junglas.
I love the BK9. But I want a Junglas too.

I love my BK9, but it's no match for my RTAKII. If the Junglas performs as well as the RTAKII, it will replace it. If it doesn't, I'll sell the Junglass and keep the RTAK.

That's about the way I'm looking at it. As far as the light work, I've never really kept the type of edge I'd want to whittle with on a chopper.

I'm really hoping that the Junglas performs better and God knows I want the better name and warranty, but I can't afford to keep both and I'm going to keep the one that works the best for me.

The only issue I see is the saber grind is going to wear at the break faster than a flat grind. The added strength I think is worth it. I actually like the rtak handle so my only consern is the thinning out

i cant wait to try out a lite machete. Ive been wanting to get a machete for a while and it looks like the one for me.
