Junglas and Crowell Barker

Funny seeing you two outside the trough! Thanks for the advice,, schools coming up and I have two little piglets that need school clothes and such,,, so no ASHBM for me at the moment..

Dog father?
Correct. And you don't need to buy INFI to get that kind of lateral strength. SR77 does the job quite nicely. SR101 ain't too bad either. For example:

When the going gets tough, the tough choose Busse & Kin! :)

I remember that video,, Beef was wailing on that thing! I hear you brother,, at the moment though the Yard is empty,, and the Rodent 9 isn't exactly what Im looking for.. I figure a Jungles was hold me over for the time being..

I'm certainly not going to knock the Junglas. It's a proven performer. The only thing I'd say is that if you're going to buy a Junglas AND a Crowell Barker, you could have bought a Rodent 9 instead. Which, of course, brings up the question of why the Rodent 9 isn't what you're looking for. Mind if I ask why you've taken it off the table?

PS: I'm not trying to talk you into anything here. You clearly realize what SR101 is capable of. I'm just trying to pick your brain a little. :)

Buying both was wishful joke.. Truth be told I just don't like the look of it,, tack a sheath onto it and I'm in knocking at the 350 mark. Im trying to keep it below 200 total..so something directly from the yard would fit my bill. I would definitely consider a 911,, and they pop up right about that much pretty often, just haven't had the money at the right time.

Fair enough. As I said, the Junglas is a proven performer and A.G. just loves the Crowell Barker. Mike Stewart had some nice things to say about it too. So I wouldn't hesitate to pick one of those up when the time comes. Only thing I'd say is keep an eye on the latter. Browning has a nasty habit of discontinuing knives without notice and the Crowell Barker has been around for quite awhile.

Im kicking myself for not grabbing a 1111 when I could,, seems like an incredible blade,, and the Dogfather REALLY looks awesome>
Hopefully Dan has a new offering along soon!

I'd choose SR101 over SR77 every time. You give up a little lateral strength by doing that but you pick up some serious edge-taking and edge-holding in return. From a bang-for-the-buck perspective, SR101 is hands-down my favorite Busse steel. And it works in just about any configuration you can imagine from neck knives to dedicated choppers. If Jerry had never developed INFI, I'd have been a fan of his for life based on the performance of SR101 alone.

Haha. I haven't bought a fixed-blade for a long time for the simple reason that I can't carry them in my neck of the woods. But a BG SHBM would be darn near irresistible on general principles alone.

One thing I would say is that for chopping, there's just no substitute for Res-C. My SHTF Busse knife is a Camp Tramp. I bought it brand new and they'll bury it with me.

I know, thru hardened SR77 bending almost 120 degrees, lol. It's like if the thing was made of rubber. The dogfather was a beast

Also, it is obvious that without a 3-4 ft breaker bar, that knife never could have been bent that far by a normal human.

The Browning is 108x and convex bevel and flat(ish)/full-height convex grind. The handle is pinned and epoxied in place and a little small and chunky/squarish to me. The build quality is very good and it comes with a pretty nice leather sheath. It's made in Taiwan.

The Junglas is 1095 and a v-bevel on a flat grind. It has removable scales and a Kydex sheath (if you order it) which is ambidextrous.

I've owned both and kept the Junglas. I'm a lefty so that mattered, plus I prefer the handle size of the Junglas. It's a terrific small machete/big knife. Plus it has a lifetime warranty and it's made in America.

Well guys, looks like it's split down the middle,, guess I'll just buy both and sell whichever I like less here:D. I may just start with the Junglas,,, must be something good about it if I have a hard time finding anything on Google for "broken Junglas",, other than the video of it getting bent 45 degrees before snapping!
Thanks guys, and thanks Cobalt for putting the vote over the edge!

Smart choice I think. I have had the Junglas for quite a while and put it through it's paces very often. From home use to camp chores to batoning all the wood for campfires all deer season long, it's never failed me and if it ever did, they have a forever warranty.

Thanks for the input! It looks like that sheath is a custom, not the one that Esee offers. Out of curiosity why did you choose that one rather than the factory one?

Actually, I did that with the factory Junglas sheath. It is totally modifiable because all the accesories bolt on or off it.

Sorry,, was trying to watch the kids at a playground,, didn't notice the "kydex whisperer" part of your screen name!

Actually Cobalt, I think he was referring to the custom sheath in my pic. I'm a custom kydex bender and build custom sheaths. I can buy the Junglas (and any other Esee) without a sheath and build my own to my specs (or a customers design and specs) cheaper than the factory option. The ESEE sheath is fine but limited in it's use and design. My custom rigs are only limited by the imagination. Here's a few custom rigs I built:

LOL. Credit where it's due here. I borrowed some of that from a BF member - Guyon, who is known as the "Biscuit Whisperer". :D

Wow love those rigs!! Do you have a website, or do people just need to PM you to get stuff done? Never mind found it,, very cool stuff brother
