All my Red Bay trees are dead or dying. Some I have chopped down with axes, some with a chainsaw, some with machetes, one with a parang. Time to see how the Junglas does on hard, dead wood. I know it can do it. The question is how much work will it be? It's 96F and humid here.

The sharp Junglas bites pretty deep for such hard wood. It really wasn't that hard to do on this little tree. The tree came down in about 45 chops. The best part is, my hand isn't stinging. This big handle really takes a lot of the shock out of chopping.

It's hot as blue blazes. I think I'll cut this up into sections with the chainsaw on a cooler day. But considering the conditions, and my condition. I think things went well this afternoon. This chopper is more comfortable to chop with than most. I give it :thumbup::thumbup:.

Nice job Vic!!!!
That first chop was some seriously deep bite!!!!
Thanks for the effort in the heat and thank you for sharing!!!!!

Looks like the Junglas took care of that tree pretty easy.

I would say I barely broke a sweat, but I started sweating as soon as I walked outside! Yes, this is a most efficient chopper. I actually prefer them thin and light. It will still shave, too. Rowen does a fine job on these beauties. The handle is perfect for me, but I realize that is an individual thing.

Haha. That was after about 15 or 20 chops. I just stuck it in there for the photo. Like I said, this was some hard wood. :D

Well it has cooled to under 90F outside with a breeze. So I just took the Junglas out and split some of the same kind of wood from another tree that I had already sawed to length. I beat on the Junglas pretty hard. You can see how dense and gnarly this bay wood is.

Looks like Junglas #0083 held up well. But I have a lot of work to do this Fall.

Awesome!fun with the junglas,I love chopping down trees marked for execution.
I did that posted pics and caught a bunch of crap from people here, but that's OK
great fun to work the junglas!! Dominion Power!!

ha! the junglas works great on bodark too. a few weeks ago, i helped cut out a bunch of undergrowth on an ancient tree in my grandma's back yard. chopped up a bit of it today with my weak hand, then batonned through about a 3-inch thick piece about a foot long one handed... good stuff. i can't wait 'til my finger starts doing its damn job again.

This looks like that thing was just really hungry. And that both of your had a lot of fun

Well thanks, all. I have used the Junglas several times before, but I wanted to see how it did on this hard wood. The factory edge is touched up. There was no need to reprofile this edge like I do some big blades. Rowen put a pretty thin primary grind on these, which makes them a breeze to sharpen. I have always liked the RTAKs for their speed and machete-like uses, like slashing vegetation. This Junglas is a refined version of those. The big knives I like most are the ones that can both chop and slash. Some of the really heavy chopping knives I have owned in the past were just not effective at machete work. Some folks believe that you need a thick heavy blade to chop wood with. As I have shown, you do not. This Junglas is as close to perfect as any big knife I have used.

Great pics!
The ESEE Junglas with the Rowen magic heat treat seems to have slid into a slot that was formerly reserved for the Busse Battle Mistress and Dogfthers and smoked them both on the price to performance ratio.
I know I'll be getting a second one shortly to keep in the jeep.
Awesome knife.
