Do any of y'all have a preference on this? Right now the biggest knife I have is a BK2 and it just ain't cutting it in the chopping dept. (Finally got to use it today) Batoned as expected.

I've read some other forums but still cant decide. Any advice is much appreciated.

I used to make decisions so easily before but since I found ESEE knives, I swear I am now the most indecisive SOB I've ever been

Thanks guys.

depends on what you are cutting, hard wood - junglas. saplings, branches, stuff like that - machete

If you are looking for a chopper/wood processor go junglas . If you are clearing jungle paths go light machete !

Appreciate it, shoulda been more specific.

An overall field blade other than the 5 or 6 (unless someone wants a brand new BK2 for a RC5) Haha, sorry had to put that in there. I've read old posts that say the Junglas can be used as a machete if needed but of course the lite machete can not be used to chop or baton. I'm just looking to carry as little as possible in the field. Thanks.

i think a field knife and the lite machete would be good. the lite machete has the length to be a decent chopper, but i think it would be too thin to baton with.

Lite Machete. It'll do just fine anything 4" and under, and definitely outshine the Junglas in brush clearing and the like. Now for the RAT Pack answer: Get both!

Also, you can chop and baton a machete just fine. I've done it with both Tramontinas and Imacasas and they held up well.

can't answer you directly.. as I don't have either.. but I have a handful of machetes and they excel rather well... your BK2 will handle ALL batoning tasks, and chopping if you use a baton.. the machete excels very quickly on brush and limbs 2" in diameter.. the junglas would fail miserably at this, while it would excel greatly at chopping, a saw would surpass...

so if it were me, machete/BK2/saw = perfect trio in the bush...ymmv

Thanks guys, appreciate all the info. I was under the impression that the machete for extremely delicate (don't know why), just my idea of a "machete" Carolina, I knew that was coming. Come on now man, damn. Don't encourage me to do that, I was already thinking it in the first place.

For an overall field blade situation, I really like the Junglas, but it is a lot of knife to carry. My trio of choice is Junglas, folding saw and something small like an Izula or a BRKT Colonial Patch.

I have the Condor Eco Light which I believe is very similar to the ESEE Light Machete except for the handle. While I do sometimes wish the handle on my Eco was a little longer it will handle any hardwood here in the south as large as my arm. It's a chopping machine just a little thin for me to baton anything except very small material. You could however baton thin slivers from a larger piece if necessary.

You just have to remember it is a tool and if you strike a rock cutting brush low to the ground you will probably roll or ding the edge.

Actually the ESEE Lite has a thicker blade than the Eco Lite.

Cool! That might push me over the edge to get one.Should be even better at heavy chopping and batoning.Do you know if the grip area of the handle is any longer?

I don't mean to hijack,I'll stay out now.

The grip looks larger in pics, but I'm not totally certain.
