Junglas or trailmaster....

Things on paper do not mean anything ;)
Yeah, little things like geometry, weight distribution, and the laws of physics don't have nearly as much to do with chopping ability as brand names and warranty coverage:rolleyes:

I've got the San Mai stainless trailmaster and a junglas, the junglas out chops the trailmaster significantly. The junglas is one super tough knife too. I just took a four day outing three weeks back and broke an axe handle the first day, oops. Batonned all of the firewood for four days with the junglas. And after all that didn't so much as put a nick or ding in that blade after all was said and done, I was thoroughly impressed. The trailmaster really tears up the battoning log with it's false edge on top. Plus the trailmaster sheath sucks horribly, junglas has an extremely nice sheath.

I have handled both. I think the design of the junglas is better with the bolt on slabs. It also felt quicker and better in the hand. I did not have the opportunity to give them a work out though. I currently carry a Busse SHBM but if I was replacing it and didnt want to spend Busse kinda money I would definately go with the junglas. I am really still trying to find a way to justify having one anyway but have not been able to come up with a way to do it yet. I have recomended it to several friends though.

Sounds like you dont need that pesky trailmaster any longer, you should email me! I will take it off of your hands.

I had a Junglas briefly and really liked it. The problem was that the handle was too wide for my hand.
I have a US made Trail Master and it chops well although the kraton handle quickly becomes abrasive unless you wrap it or use gloves.
A few weeks ago, I got a chance to look at the current production Taiwan-made Trail Master and I was disappointed. The swedge is sharpened which I don't like. The bigger problem was that the guard was poorly fitted. This knife costs way too much to have shoddy fit. On the other hand I got the current production Recon Scout and it's nice.

I'd go with the jungles personally it doesn't look as cool but I believe it is a more practical design.

Ha, actually the junglas and stainless trailmaster are my two favorite big knives but my personal preference is that the junglas is better for camp chores, I made a kydex sheath for the trailmaster to replace the crappy one that comes with it, which made carrying it alot better.
