We are heading back to the jungle November / December to train a group of pilots in jungle survival. If there is any piece of survival gear / knives you would like to see tested, post it up here and we'll do our best to evaluate it. To be honest with you, we've about run out of ideas for new gear to be tested during these schools.

Actually, here's an odd one:

How about salt pills/electrolyte tablets?

I spent several months in the Amazon, and in everyone's survival pack, really the only thing was salt. The rationale was that there was an abundance of everything EXCEPT some form of electrolyte. But, the salt pills that I've had either a) taste bad, b) are very expensive (such as NUUN), or have some other flaw with them.

Just an idea, have fun! That sounds great.

I am right on board with water purification. I've been wanting to know which of these inexpensive water filters you can get from places like BQ does the best job of getting out the grit and such, the cleanest you can get it before boiling.

how about the a chris reeve's one piece knife, I would like to know what all could fit into the handles and how well it would hold up.

My humble suggestion to you guys is to take some leading folding knives on the market at a price point you'd actually pay for out of pocket, use abuse or lose them all in camp chores, and come back inspired with a better mousetrap.

Right now, my list of try-outs would include:

CRK large Sebenza
Strider SNG
Benchmade 610 RUKUS
Benchmade Griptilian
Spyderco large Manix
Spyderco Pacific Salt
Buck Cabela's Alaskan Guide, a 110 with a coated S30V blade

Randomly hand them out and have everyone switch every few days.

First, does anyone bother to use them for anything?
Are they worth carrying as a ready back up?
If used, how'd they do and how'd they hold up?
Strong/weak points of the designs and execution.

That'd be cool. A Project I or II. Caveat being, use only that knife as if you really were surviving and it was all you had.

Add a Zero Tolerance in there...

Just got a MUDD...and so far I am pretty happy with it.

How about some (flash)lights? I like to know how the 'cheap, made in China' Fenix, Olight, Nitecore lights are doing in those humid conditions. Maybe even compare them against a Surefire. Or do you guys use headlamps in the jungle?

I know that in the jungle, machete rules all, but Id like to see you test out some hatchets just for a machete vs axe in the jungle type of thing......

Condor Inca Knife! A really handy sized small machete as an alternative to the usual 18"/ 20" giants!

Add another vote for a hard test of the ZT0500 MUDD. I'd like to know how well the sealed pivot would hold up under severe abuse!

But is has that gay pink handle. We couldn't do that!

I do not know if the Woodsman PAL Machete has been jungle tested and I know the blunt tip may not be useful in the jungle but I sure have been wanting to buy one for a while and they are USA made.

I would like to know how your prefilters are working for the miox system. Which light holds out the humidity best. Which jungle boots have the best sole for the mudd and such. Do any of the insect repellent treated clothes work at all. Things like that. I think you Fellas have the knife bases covered. IMO :D

You don't mean my custom pink Hello Kitty ZT0301 do you? It matches the Izula!

No man, I mean the MUDD! :D
