Jungle SNAFU's and Remedies

Yup, I just got a copy. Expensive, but worth it. I found that alot of the recommendations for living in the jungle closely matched alot that I read in Andy McNabb's books.

General Jack Singlaub, former commander of MACV/SOG said that it should be required reading for spec ops persons. Soldier Of Fortune has run articles on new jungle hammocks ect being used by Spec Ops persons.. I really liked the info and found it easy to read.

On the down side the reason that it seems so easy to read is that Maj Kearny repeats himself often on alot of what of his points. There is no room for doubting his opinion because he says it so forcefully so many times.

Also, unless you have a considerable bankroll and the ability to cache items it is not really for the individual survivalist (is that word evil, like tactical?). It address supply issues and what should be found in supply chains, because the lighter clothes and other items are less durable because of the all-important weight issues.

Read it from the point of view of developing workable concepts rather than specific survival issues and you will come away with alot of both. The first time I read it I was looking for survival tips, and got a lot of other stuff. By being more concept oriented I found that I learned a hell of alot. Usually I am concept oriented to begin with, but the build up that the book had kinda misled me.

I would not trade my copy for anything and will be referring to it while purchasing equipment for all terrain.

I got that book about a year and a half ago through Amazon.com. Mine is a hard cover but I think that they are now available in paperback through Brigade or US Cavalry for less $.

It's definately worth reading. The previous post pretty much echos my thoughts on the book. Good info and ideas but pretty repetitive.
