Junk knives you can't stop loving (and using).

If you are using a junk knife because you are afraid to loose or break a valuable knife. Know this.

The knife you carry everyday and use for everything will become extremely valuable sentimentaly. It will still hurt when you loose or break it.

So why not carry a high quality knife from the start?

Also know if something catastrophic happens while you are away from home. The one in your pocket will become your only one. So choose wisely.

not really junk but really cheap
I grab the Vickies more than those not cheap knives

btw them fixed blades on the ends were just there for fun
I don't really keep them there

I avoid plastic knives as much as I can, but I have to admit to small victorinox "office" kitchen knives are my go to knife for cooking small stuff. The ergo and the feeling in the hand are amazing !

SOG blades in general have always been a "guilty pleasure"
I have much nicer knives like my CRKs ,but most SOG fixed blades and quite a few of their folders
get me every time. I've been carrying a Trident Folder lately.
I think the Trident's lock fails at around 40lbs of pressure vs. an axis lock that'll hold something like 200# per inch of blade.
Thing is, I rarely apply pressure to the blade in the closing-direction and if I do it's nowhere to close to 40#s on the lock.

Yeah I don't know why SOG is particular like that. Glad to know you think the same. I guess it's because some of their knives are very good looking overall. It tells us a lot how far a solid initial design can go when it comes to knives.

I really like the overall concept of the chaparral FRN, but so knife is so fucking ugly that I resold it very quick, despite being one of the best knife I've ever carried from a pure technical perspective.

I don't think that way. Knives are tools to me, I never got sentimental over them. I've lost my first SOG Aegis in the forest during a long boar hunt. I've bought another one the next day and never thought about the first...

Same about any knives I have, even my beloved 940-1.

The only thing that bothers me if I lose a knife, it's value I lost in terms of money =)

Camillus made Remington medium stockman with delrin handle. Was an impulse purchase out of a bucket at a checkout counter to get rid of loose pocket change (it may have cost 50 cents). Thought if nothing else, I could use it to practice with my sharpening stone. Figured it might fall apart by the end of the day. Has been my EDC for 24 years.

IDK. I’ve seen and worked with a lot of old carpenters with old tools. The good ones don’t break many tools.

I remember on Fridays at lunch time. All work stopped and all the saws and chisels and knives got sharpened by hand. Every thing was cleaned oiled waxed and ready for Monday morning.

Then we all had the weekend off.

Times sure have changed.

Junk is in the eye of beholder. I know Gerber is kinda a dirty word around here, especially anything with the BG name on it, but these two have been quite faithful to me for a very long time. And I’ve abused the heck out of both of them.

I’ll enjoy using both of them, unapologetically, as long as they keep working.

This is fun. The cheapest knife to get pulled out every now and again is my schrade SCHF44LS dagger. I LOVE THIS KNIFE. It's basically my ideal dimensions (a little thin stock) for this type of knife. It's my take the trash out at night knife, that I wouldn't mind losing in the neighbors loose pit bull.

All of my work knives are certified junk. I baby my "good knives".
I kept one of these ($7.99) on my breakfast island for about 5 years. We used it for mail/grocery packages. I put a decent working edge on it with a cheap pull through sharpener.

I use the Gerber mini Paraframe at work. $7.99 Less than 2oz.

This is my pride and joy, breakfast island, piece of crap. It doesn't slice worth a darn, but it is a good poker.

Damn, I'm really slipping in my middle-age, I can't believe I forgot this one.

It's a 9" Kissing Crane stiletto. I ordered it from a catalog back in 1986, when I was 16. This was my "city" knife. I carried this knife everyday, in town, from the day I bought it through my 20's, (including high school). I used it for all sorts of knife chores. The flat-ground blade took a razor sharp edge.

Though I wouldn't call it junk, it doesn't come close to the quality of modern knives. It doesn't even come close to the quality of the Buck 110 I got when I was 12 (my "country" knife).

I ground away a section of the handle so I could easily grab the blade for opening rather than having to use the nail nick. Made it easier to open with gloves on as well.

I have a lockback with a 2.5" clip point made by "Master Knives" (probably defunct by now) that somebody gave me as a gift almost 20 years ago. It sits in my desk at work for loaning out and backup to my normal EDC rotation.
