Just a heads up about a new form of theft at gas stations

Its been happening here. The worst I've heard was something that happened to a close friend of mine. He and his wife were at a cemetery visiting the gravesite of their son who had passed away the previous week. They were about a hundred feet from their car when another car pulled up alongside it and snatched his wife's purse. They weren't able to catch them.

NOTHING is sacred anymore, folks.

This is exactly why I roll up my windows and lock my doors whenever I get out of my car even if I'm only gonna step away from my car for a few moments. A few years ago, a friend of mine went to a convenient store just to get a pack of cigarettes and left his window down and someone tried to steal his backpack out of the front seat. Luckily my buddy noticed and the guy didn't end up stealing anything but it just goes to show, you can't be too careful nowdays.

That is horrible! I hope everyone keeps their things safe! I always take my purse when I walk into the gas station and keep it at my side until I am back in the car. Thanks for posting this KAAK! It is nice to keep people informed.

^ This. If I'm getting out of my car, windows up and doors locked. It's sad that you have to do this in today's day and age, but you can't always trust in the inherent good in people. There are a lot of bad eggs.

This is bad, a couple years ago a contractor I know pulled up at a gas station in florida and left his bag with info and thousands of dollars in-between driver and passenger seats. Gone, he didnt see nothing.

When I run into the gas station I rarely even take my keys out of the ignition. Growing up in a nice small town might have its faults, I may be too trusting.

This is horrible. I rarely leave my vehicle when I'm getting gas, maybe to grab the window cleaner thing and clean the windows, but when I do I tend to leave my phone and keys in there. Like Lexi said, growing up in a small town will do that to you. I hope everyone has good fortune and doesn't lose their belongings.

Yeah sorry. There is no "may be" to it. You are too trusting if you do that. Eventually you won't have a car.

Back in 2000 I was working for an agency that did interesting and unusual things, stopped at a place to fill up, I pumped the fuel and my partner did the vehicle log and stuff (I was passenger) we walked into the place together as I needed a drink as well...about 10 seconds later I here Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnddddy.... and see him running and then notice the car driving away.....I was sooooo close to shooting out the back window...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He had left the keys in the ignition in one of the crappiest parts of Sydney...and he was my boss.....!!!!! Did we have some explaining to do that afternoon.... not to mention the flack from the other teams at work...yeah....now I think about it that was the worst part.....!!!!!!!!!

Car was recovered less than 24hrs later, parked about two blocks from our office, undamaged, our suit jackets still inside, my partners wallet still in the console (they did take his cash) mobile phones still there as well. It was used in two robberies immediately after it was stolen (and this is why it was taken I suspect) but we think they then realized who owned the vehicle and panicked and figured it was best returned safely along with the contents.... ;) :D

I NEVER want to relive that moment...when I get fuel I lock up and or post a sentry !!!!!!!! :D

I never leave my truck unlock. I get out and the first thing I do is check for my keys are in my pocket then get my cane and lock the truck up. I always have locked my truck up when ever I am not in it.

I grew up in the middle of Houston, so I am careful to lock up my doors even in my own driveway or stepping away for a minute. What a sad world we live in where this is needed

We never leave anything of value inside the car when we are away, learned that from my a@@hole cousin (he's a jerk...and a moron.) If people are desperate, they'll snatch anything they think they can hock.

Always have locked the doors and rolled this windows up most of the way.

Even at 3:30am in BFE Kentucky on my way to Blade where the only living things in sight were the clerk and a house cat, doors were locked.

It's sad that it's came to this, but truth is, there are a lot of people you just can't trust out there and they really f over the people you can.

It is so unfortunate that it has come to this. When I was a kid, I remember never needing a key to get into the house. Nothing was ever locked, and now its the first thing pretty much everyone does when they go anywhere.

I grew up the same way, now when I go home, my sister and mother wonder why I carry a gun and lock my car all the time :)
In fact my mom hugs me like we are at a mafia meeting and when she feels my gun, she asks why I carry and I ask her what day it is, she says "Friday" and I say I always carry on Friday :)
If she said Tuesday I would say I always carry on Tuesday.

My non gun friends always ask why I carry and I usually say, "If I did not need to I wouldn't"
