They sell a plastic-handled model called “Gabatcha Knife” - Gabatcha being, I’m told, a derogatory term for for the citizens of the country to the north, sort of like Gringo would be used in Mexico 🤣.

I really liked it for wood carving, so I bought a second one to make a fatter, more comfortable handle for. I also covered up the sharp heel of the blade a little. My version is a little too chunky to be elegant, but form followed function in this case:

They also make a “Pastor” model, but 1.) I couldn’t find one, and 2.) they don’t make the larger No.2 size I like.

Now that you say this, I recall seeing it before! Gabacho is a lesser known slur here in California as well..... I was called that once. :oops:

I have the Pastor n° 1 in both handles.... Perfect size for me. Ordered a back up but the handle arrived cracked and it wasn't worth it to send back to Spain, so maybe I'll try what you did!

Yours looks great!

Crack is at the butt end.... May just try to sand that part out.

You could try filling it with a little epoxy first, then sanding it down. It will look just like any other of the dark streaks in the grain. You may have to sand and refinish the whole handle though to make it look uniform.
