Just a thought regarding photos

I always get a good idea of a knives size when I see it next to known knives, simple enough.
Orion's Belt: If you are interested in the Kershaw Centofante they can still easily be found new through google. They have been discontinued for awhile but I guess there are still plenty around.

Not going to happen. What I do is hold a ruler to the image of your ruler and reduce the magnification (CTRL -) until they match.

A-ha! Also,

, in its simplicity. Much easier than what I was trying to do, especially since even had I been successful myself, that would be no guarantee that anyone else would view the same pixel-sized image in the same scale.

The increments when I used +/- were too great to get it exact, but downloading the image allowed me to grab its corner and quickly match it to a ruler.

I shall keep this in mind.

Coins and dollar bills won't work. Rest of the world uses other size coins and notes.

Ps. Metric is easy to understand, 10mm equals 1cm, 100cm equals 1meter, 1000m eqauls 1Km...all about 10 :) no three eights of an inch....but then again, that's why whe have convertors on our phones, laptops etc. He he :)

O, some great pictures would be spoiled with a ruler in them.

What about this alternative?

Two different size Bics? And I don't smoke, not really familiar in-hand with small lighters.

I say again, a ruler -- easy to find with metric & imperial -- is unambiguous. It isn't a matter of easy mathematical conversion between systems. We live by the visceral understanding derived from years of experience with a specific measuring system. That's why people ask for in-hand pictures, taking it for granted that their hand is typical. Mine isn't :p but my rulers are.

1. Two different size Bics?

2. And I don't smoke, not really familiar in-hand with small lighters.
1. Yes but I am certain people do understand that the size comparison is executed with the regular/most common BIC lighter.

2. C'mon. You don't have to smoke in order to have some understanding regarding the size? If you find it that hard, what about a Zippo lighter?? ;)

PS I agree. The ruler method is the most accurate measuring method, however not the quickest/easily read

One of my main annoyances on this site is that when someone posts a pic of a knife I cant tell how big or small the knife is in real life...

All knife pics should be placed beside a human hand for size comparison lol. Again this was just a thought with no likely resolution.. :P
LOLZ! I'll have to figure that out for the future. Every photo with a finger or two in the corner...

:D

Everyone has a Swiss Army knife. Put a normal sized Swiss Army Knife in the picture and everyone will get the picture.
