Just a thought

This analogy makes sense if you see yourself as "pray". Avoiding the trouble has it's limits and drawbacks. Today you'll avoid this or that neighborhood because you don't consider them safe enough. Then you'll avoid walkning arround alone in your own neighborhood after let's say 01:00AM because it's not exactly safe. Then your move to a safer place and so on ...
I admit that there are places where I won't go at night. Even the police avoids them but this is an extreme example. But for the rest, if a "predator" agresses me the first thing he'll get is my blade ... and not for keeping.

I have to admit I find the argument that one has to be armed with a Gatling gun so one can go wherever one wishes to "safely" difficult to accept, IMHO.

Over the years I've been in some truly bad situations and places. Some times I've been armed with something lethal, other times I haven't had the luxury or opportunity. Other times it simply wasn't possible.

For those times you rely upon other means of quality self defense and protection.

In all cases I've done just fine.

In many cases I took what I learned from the experience and built upon it defense / offense wise for the future.

I agree. If you act like prey you'll be seen as such. Of course, that's an interesting deception technique for the cobras amongst us. On the other hand those who happily and brazenly march into the maw under the impression that they have a right to walk freely anywhere upon the face of the earth are easy prey..."fools walk where angels fear to tread" kinda thing. Knowing where you are is half the battle in self preservation.

Whether predator or scavanger (and I've been advised both can kill you) the key is to be prepared and to be seen as prepared. The fight still may come but at least it'll be a hellofa battle.
