After seeing one of Nick Wheelers vises that he made I decided to try and make my own.
I made it mostly from scraps around the shop. I dont have a welder so I had to bolt it all together.
It rotates on two axises. One horizontal and one vertical.
What do you think?

Thanks for looking,

Looks built to house a nuclear fission experiment! No worried of stability or vibration there, eh?
That's awesome.

That thing looks great. I don't think it will wear out anytime soon. Most all the time I find bigger heavy stiffer is best for knifemaking tools.

Nope no vibration, but it weighs about 30 pounds.
Thanks for the comments

I would replace the allen head screws with knobs for ease of insertion and adjustments.

I'm glad my vise got your wheels turning, but I'm disappointed to see you made yours so wimpy...

 :D

Man, that thing's a frigg'n tank! :)

Now, if you mount it to a big ass angle plate with a pivot, you will be able to rotate it in every direction. ;) :)

I actually thought about adding a third axis, but it would be so heavy. And I was ready to move on to other projects. Like my ht oven.
I should have used some thick 2" stock, I'm not shure if this .750 and .500 is going to be strong enough.
Thanks everyone.

That's a good idea I'll have to see if I can find some, or just make them. Those Allen heads were the first thing I laid my hands on and I just ran with them.

Wow looks solid, I built one just like Nicks and it works awesome. But like bladsmith said use a knob instead of the allen bolts.

You might have to get an anvil stand and floor mount that sucker or the other end of your bench is going to fly up and smack you :p
