I am fortunate to have a large regional park near me. It is only a few miles from my house, and I enjoy the nature trails. I just don't feel like walking down the road, like most folks do. Besides, I'm fat and my feet take less of a pounding on the dirt. But there are SO many rules there. The Park Supt (Camp Commandant) has managed to ban just about everything. I honestly don't know how the campers there cut their food, chop their wood, or light their fires. So I can't carry a knife that is visible. Here are just some of the "rules". And there is even an archery range there, but no bows or arrows are allowed. Go figure. But I pay my taxes, and I will walk there!

Today I wanted to check out my new man purse, the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack. And I wanted to carry my new CS Rajah 2, just for fun. So I headed out down the trail, planning to have a late lunch at the usually deserted "primitive" camp site.

But when I arrived at the camp, an SUV was parked there. It seems that the girl scouts are having a leadership campout tonight. Good for them. I talked to the nice scout leader, a lady named Lynnette, and walked on down the trail to have lunch elsewhere.

And I came upon this treasure, a fat lighter stump!

So out came the Rajah II and I split out some fat lighter that I could give to the girl scouts on the way back.

Having a pocket chopper is a handy thing. So I stuffed the fat lighter into my new bag, and on I went to have lunch.

The Maxpedition carried well and was more comfortable than any shoulder bag I have ever used.

I had my sandwich in privacy, and enjoyed the scenery.

And being alone, I took a few gratuitous knife pics.
My EDC, the Swamp Rat Trap.

My new Stay Glow Victorinox OHT.

My fat lighter splitting Cold Steel Rajah II.

The Max Jumbo did the job, carrying all I needed in comfort.

On the way back, I gave the fat lighter to Lynnette, and she was grateful as she had used the last of hers. No big adventure. Just a walk in the park.

Gorgeous place. What's up with Colonel Klink and all the rules?

All high party officials in the Peoples Republic of Georgia are like that. They justify there positions by making up new rules. They could make it easier. Just make a sign saying "ANYTHING NOT EXPRESSLY PERMITTED IS PROHIBITED".

Any and all useful items are prohibited. Please feel free to get lost in our park and be helpless.

Also, tomahawks are okay because they are not on our list naughty no-no items.

Have a nice day,
The Parks Department.

Wow, too many things prohibited there! I like that Rajah II..

The Commandant doesn't even know that the GA General ASSembly made it legal to carry firearms in State and local parks. But my pistol is out of sight and out of mind. I just keep a low profile and do my thing. Well not too low. I give the Park Supt hell about all those dumb rules every time I see him. He says they need all those rules to kick wrong doers out of the park. Why not just punish stupid behavior instead of banning normal outdoor items?

Nice pics!

Of course, the question that immediately springs to mind is:

Did you harass the waterfowl? :D

There must be 50 or more campers in that section of the park now. So none of them use a knife to cut their steak? None of them take a drink? I need to tell Stanley the Commandant that I fear some of the couples may be having sex in those campers. I bet the next day "No Sex" will be added to the list of prohibited activities. What bothers me most is that we tolerate all these "rules". As far as I know, I am the only person in the county compaining about them. I have done so many times and even mentioned it on the local radio talk show. My local commissioners just don't see any problem with any of the rules.
