Don't know if this has been brought up, but a suggestion for Buck: Colored Buck Vantages.
It seems that these could be a good competitor for the Benchmade Griptilian with half the price.:)

I really enjoy colorful tools/knives. Enormously attractive idea. I want a gold one (the new iphone in gold was a crowd-pleaser for sure). BTW, nice dye job. Oh la la.

However, when I was at the Buck factory in July it was stuffed full to capacity. Adding options, inventory and parts takes space not to mention personnel. What product line would you cut to make room or how much would you spend to add volume to the facility, hire more workers, reconfabulate software and hire more management to oversee it all?

That would be quite the hassle. I am naive to the workings of the production line, but was hoping that this could actually be as simple as making/ordering different color zytel for the handles.

I found the manufacture of the products to be complex and challenging when I visited the factory. I am so very happy that buying the Buck knives is so easy. Just fork over the dough and you get terrific cutlery. You should see the scheduling wall for production. Oi! Stephen Hawking couldn't make sense of it. Yet it works.

You couldn't keep the exotic handles in Chuck's office because there is already fantastic cutlery on every flat surface. Yes there is. :)

Take the tour KSK. It was an enriching experience. Leroy Remer was in the small group during my tour and he talked to everyone. I usually work alone and it was fun to see someone so gregarious enjoy the comradery of his former employer's staff. The finest people I've ever met.

Yeah, but you had to buy the knife, too. :)

Oh, you mean just the scales? I would almost be down for that except that would encourage folks to disassemble their knives. I understand that what I did has void any warranty that I had, so I am not sure Buck would want to encourage that kind of thing. :P

You have a point there. The Vantage line is so easy to take apart and re-assemble, though. I think folks would really like customizing their knife. Buck can do a lot of business selling "limited editions" and such. I would love to get a pair of dymondwood scales for my select.

I believe that there was a variant sold at Walmart that consisted of a select blade and the dymondwood scales?

Well, I would like a orange for hunting.

Elk is a JAG, Dymondwood was bought (hand picked from two dozen) at "a" knife shop in Branson, Missou. Jag is 420, DW is Swedish.

This was a 300Bucks self custom, taken apart after photo because of cheap looking red colored jigged bone. Will someday get some good jigging and do another.

300

Those look pretty amazing as well. Even the red one looks real nice.

We have whole threads on orange knives in GD, on BladeForums. It's a color that certainly sells. Also there's a good bit of neon green stuff out there for the whole Zombie craze, that causes many more mature members here to cringe a good bit. Not to mention the FFG FRN Spyderco Enduras, and Delicas, that are offered in several, becoming colors.

I would like a blaze orange, glow in the dark one for hunting. I've dropped knives on my way out of the woods at night, never to be seen again.

I have been in production for 20 years, Haven't seen the Buck facilities but you are right about the different handle scales.
My son lost his Vantage we made blue Jean macarta for. :( I would get a orange one green would be good also.

I will have to see if I can find some RIT dye in green now. :D

Sorry to here about losing the Jean colored Vantage. I think I remember seeing a shot of that, way back when. As I recall, it was a real nice looking knife.

I might have to try that and dye a Vantage lime green. Did you ever get around to dyeing a green Vantage, KSK?

I agree with the colored Vantages. I could easily see this being Buck's version of Spyderco's colored Delica/Endura lines or Benchmade's Griptilian line. The different colors and great basic knife pattern make this knife an attractive and friendly option for new knife buyers. Plus flipper knives are fun =P
