Has anyone tried carrying two survival kits while on a hike.

Recently, I had some time off of work, so I gathered my materials together and I came up with 5 altoids survival kits(all with the same components). Now, some say that the problem with survival kits is that one tends to not use the kit because its "not a true survival situation", on the other hand, a survival kit is used to make your stay in the bush a bit more comfortable. So, I was thinking, if I carried 2 of the same kits, say 1 in the pocket and 1 in the pack. This way I would not hold back on using the items and I would always have a spare/more components in the case that I really needed them.

Just some random thoughts. Opinions please...

I'm a firm believer in 'practical redundancy'. Good call, I says:thumbup:

I always carry one no matter the outdoor activity to where accidents happen no matter your location or your situation. Be prepared !

99.8% of our daily lives, never need the stuff we carry....but that .2% when it hits, sure glad I did!!!!!

I have never been able to get my head around the Altoid tin survival kits, I can only just fit mine in my Maxpedition Proteus pack and if I took everything that I thought I may need I would struggle to get it in a backpack !!!

Even something as simple as a survival blanket won't fit in an Altoids tin !

I'm really just thinking out loud though bro and if you are happy with what you have in your pocket then that's great and if it's only tin sized then hell yeah, stick a spare in your other pocket !!!

I will when I go out planning on practicing skills. I alway have one that does not get opened, and another that gets opened and practiced with.

I have an adventure medical kits sac stuffed with my survival gear. I'm like Pitdog and stuff alot more stuff (including a good first aid package + drugs), emergency blanket, firesteel, whitle, compass etc. in my PSK. This goes with me pretty much everywhere. In my commute to work or beating around town I have a backpack that houses my SLR camera and holds my computer and it has a great little spot that accepts my PSK. When I go hiking, I just pull the PSK with me as a separate smaller package that goes into whatever bag I'm taking.

When I'm camping and plan to have a base set up, a bigger first aid kit + survival gear comes along. This is one of those floating cases, the kind they sell as boat first aid kits. I stuff this with several things including drugs, sam-splint etc. Alot of what is in this bigger first aid kit is redundant to my little one. As the OP states though, at my camp site I have no qualms about using materials from the bigger kit to meet my needs.

Yes good point. People tend to think just becouse they are going for a short walk in a park or the woods that they can't hurt themselves and be on the ground for hours before someone finds them. I hate hiking with the kind of people that say "we're just going for a mile what could happen?" Same people that don't take water or very little just becouse they are going to the wilderness area close by for a short walk. This is mainly an Italian girl I know.;)
