Just another lesson on lending knives to people

peacefuljeffrey:
The two different persons in question who couldn't figure out the linerlock (at two different times and places) are able to figure out difficult (for me) computer functions and other pieces of technology, as well as firearms, yet when I showed them how the liner unlocked, they seemed mystified; one even shook his head and furrowed his brow. I find that very odd, kind of like the time a female acquaintance once told me that her rocket-scientist husband had to go to a meeting at a new building. He arrived very early in the morning and later called his wife in anger because he said the building was closed. It turned out he was trying to pull the door open, and it was clearly marked 'push'. He only figured it out after about 20 minutes when another man simply pushed the door open and walked in.

I don't lend people my knives.
Well said and to the point.
Same here, if a cut is needed I'll provide it. But outside of sharing the beauty of my E.D.C.'s with others...the chores of the blade remain mine.
Keeps friends longer:)

I explain that this behavior is bad for the knife. I gave the blade a cursory exam and it seemed to be ok, but I suspect significant dulling at the least.

It is frozen water, I would not expect much of anything. I have dug holes in ice with knives lots of time for fishing.

I never let anyone but a few family members borrow a knife. Maybe a beat-up old SAK, but not my EDC Spydercos or Benchmade. If something needs cut, it's a lot safer for me to go ahead and cut it then let someone that doesn't even carry a knife do it. I don't even like it when people that do carry some flea market beater want to check out my EDC. "Hey that's shar--owww!"

This thread is so funny. :D

I forgot how much non knife people don't know about knives.

It's a shame really that growing up their dad never taught them about knives. :(

I have already given away a SAK and also a Kershaw Scallion to the guys at work so they have knives. I've been at my job now 5 years and they are good enough guys to give knives to. :)

I'm just now getting ready to get a nice Spyderco to give to a good friend. :)
