Just another rehandle thread. And my First Sheath. NEW PICS!!

Really nice job!
What did you use to sand them and make them shiny?

Looking forward to the pics!

Thanks! I got some 80 grit belts that were 1x42 for shaping. I cut the belts and did it by hand. This gave it an awesome feel.the spine and scales are fluid and seemless. after i shaped the handles I used a 600 grit belt on the sander and then up to 15 micron. I then applied a layer of tung oil and wiped it off, let that dry for about 30 minutes and then took some 0000 steel wool to it and finished with a clean polishing wheel on a Dremel. Finally I applied another thick coat of Tung oil and let it sit over night. tomorrow it should shine up REAL well and then one last coat should make it high gloss without using lacquer. Cant wait to get started on the sheath for this thing!

I also reground the index finger area, thought I would point it out since no-one mentioned it yet!!

Very nice work, sir. There is something gratifying about bringing something to shape with your hands.
Before you put the handle on, did you notice much of a difference in finger room or comfort?
I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my necker. Might have to make new scales too..

You get about another .5 inch of grip on it, which for me is just enough for all 4 fingers. I love the mod.

My only regret is that I meant to add liners and completely forgot. I got so excited to get started just totally slipped my mind.

Cool. I'm going to have to find a suitable file and do that sometime.

As far as the liners, well at least you'll have something to look forward to for next time. :D

I think it looks great, can't wait to see the finished product with sheath.

Woa that turned out awesome.. good work.

Have you ground on the blade at all? Seems like my 11 has a bit more belly to it.

Nice work, Jarod!

I use a double-cut file to do my rough shaping. Much faster than sandpaper and it won't burn wood like the power sander can.
