I just picked up a .172" S35VN blade I had TruGrit heat treat. Looks good and I want to grind a the clip.

Any tips or tricks on grinding the clip? I am not sure what a good angle would be.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Each one is a little different. I used to record which angle I used on which knife; in the end I found it easier to place the blade against the naked platen and make the call by how it looks to my eye. If your grinding with a Bubble Jig; place the jig on the bevel with a piece of tape under it and set and lock the bubble as you are eyeballing your setting.

Post us a pic when you get it finished.

Thanks Fred,

I due have a bubble jig and will give it a try for the clip.

I will do some runs on aluminum first to see what looks best

Thanks again

I was going to add the practice runs option; but I figured you knew that. If you work off a steady tool rest its rather easy.

I use a large angled rest for most of my clips, I usually grind them pre heat treat.

Ben,

What angle is your rest?

I might have to make a set up like that.

I think it is at about 12 degrees in that picture. I change it depending on the thickness of the blade and desired grind height.
