Hello!

This is one amazing little knife:-). 10 of 10 if I have to grade it. It is the stainless steel handle and plain edge. Compact, light and shaving sharp.

And here is the question. Obviously this knife was not properly cleaned during storing in the shop glass-case and because of touching, cold-hot environment transition and humidity, little spots (4 or 5) of rust emerged on the back and on the clip-less side of the handle. Nothing serious really, but I hate rust.

Best way to clean it and to prevent further rusting? Oiling, polishing or cleaning with special chemicals.

A little 600-400 grit wet/dry with a few drops of baby oil, mineral oil, etc. work in straight lines to preserve the original lines. After that a little MAAS stainless steel polish every so often will keep it tip top.

As an aside, these knives take a very nice edge, hold it quite well, and love strops.

Congrats on the new blade,

Beckerhead

What the others said on how to treat the spots.

My experience with byrd steel is that it's very rust resistant. I can usually get VG-10 to pit in about a week if the weather is hot and I don't treat the blade. AUS-8 did it after about a year with no blade treatment. So far the byrd steel hasn't had any treatment, and after about two-and-a-half years it still shows no signs of corrosion.

Hi Ghostrider:-). The rust spots are on the handle. Nothing on the blade. I think that you are talking about rust on the blade, right?

BIG THANX for all the ideas and time spent to answer my question:-)))
