Toward the beginning, they did better. The original S1 sheath was quite good (it went down hill several years ago when they changed it). Nylon pouches for the large folders were quite adequate. Even the nylon sheaths for the early fixed blades were fine. But not many in the last ten years have been comparable to the knife it holds.

I know the answer to this. It is my guess that they feel that the sheaths provided are functional and up to standards to match their knives, and probably more importantly, it is an area they can cut costs (to boost the bottom line). These are the logical reasons companies would come to similar conclusions.huugh said:Agreed.

Now, consumers might feel differently, believing that a sub-par sheath will reduce overall sales of a product, but it is my guess that this sentiment is not shared at SOG (or if it is, it is not a consensus and/or the bottom line drives the decision).
