Just Bought My First 940...ok I Get It Now!

I got one of those instead of the 940-2. I don't know why, but I don't mind the purple in this case (usually I don't like purple at all).
I think it’s cool because it’s different. It’s not often you see the REI version out there.

That's why I love this REI Pardue version!

The 940-1 has been responsible for most of the down sizing in my small group of folders.
I didn’t mind the purple back spacer on the 940 so much. It grew on me quickly.

Ive had 30-40 spyderco's, and 20 ish benchmades......all are gone. Ive kept my 4 940's....they are the end all be all for EDC knives.

Having said that, doesn’t it make you wonder why Benchmade doesn’t use that 940 “cult-like following” to create various sprint runs of the 940 similar to what Spyderco has done with their Paramilitary 2? (ie. Different steels, scale colors, blade coatings, thumb studs, etc.)?

Yeah, that’s a nice Grip! I like the way REI does its exclusives. Nothing too extravagant that would cost a lot more, but cool enough to make it desirable. I missed out on that Grip you have, but they’ve got a 531 in green G10 that looks much nicer than the standard scales.

I've wondered this too. It could just be that their factory isn't properly set up for sprint runs, I'm not sure. It would be great if they started doing this, because I could see a lot of people (including myself) buying multiple versions of their favorite models if different scales, steels, etc were available.

I came to this post trying to understand the appeal of 940 and still dont get it. Too many other things to try to ever give it a chance for me. I don't like it

Aside from a ZT0450.....name another knife with similar components that has a similar size both folded and deployed. It disappears in the pocket.

The 940 interested me from the start, but I was afraid I wouldn't like it so I put off owning one for years. The reverse tanto, the steep grind, the unusual swedge and the relatively high price just didn't make sense to me given cheaper offerings like the Grips or various Spydercos. But... when I finally tried one I put away or sold my other knives pretty much for good. Here's why from my point of view: The narrow blade slices way better than it seems like it should--just an awesome geometry (quite close to a very traditional Japanese design actually). The slim handle is comfortable to work with and with the whole package just disappears in your pocket. I love how lightweight it is, especially in the CF versions. I work in a restaurant kitchen and one night I forgot my knife roll with the 3 Japanese kitchen knives I usually use on the job. Rather than borrow a beater chef's knife I decided to see what it was like to go the whole shift just the 940. I was amazed at how well it performed. As good as my $250 dollar chef's knife? No way. But impressive none the less.
