This is not my first spydie, but it is my first with serations. Its the combo edge with the black coated blade. I normally don't like combo edges on knives of this size or the black coating. I was walking throught the PX on base and just couldn't pass up the price, $40. It will be a great addition to my spyderco family. I think it will be a little easier to clip to my running shorts during my morning runs than my endura, but I will definately be carrying both when at work and on duty. If it is like my other 2 spydies I am sure it will grow on me. I plan on purchasing the Chinook 3 as soon as I get back state side.

you got that straight :D
congrats

Congrats on your new Delica. The Chinook III is a tank of a knife.

If you are looking for a big tough folder look no further. It's a great one too.

I bought it over here in Kuwait at the PX. I had never seen one either, I think it might be a special edition or something since I didn't see it on their website either. The pics might have to wait since my internet here is touch and go. Everything is blacked out including the screws and the back spring.

If it actually had screws on the handle then it's one of the black bladed D4s I've heard rumors about. Does it look like you could take the knife apart with a torx wrench?

The Delica 4's with black blades are due in about a week or so (4/28/08). An example would be the C11PSBBK.

A number of earlier Delicas had black blades and are still available...here's a few examples:

I'm sure there are more...

It is definately a D4, looks just like my E4 except for the obvious differences. I must say after carrying this knife for about a week now it is really starting to grow on me. It sliced like butter through the webbing on some old fall protection harnasses. I really like the serrations on this blade, they seem to make up for shorter blade length. I was surprised at how comfortably it fits in my hand. Don't get me wrong it is not going to replace my E4 but it will definately be an edc especially in pt gear.

These must have made it to Kuwait a little early...haven't been able to find any here yet...sounds like a winner!

Now my only problem is what if the endura 4 with a black blade shows up next....means I will have to buy that one too ...oh darn

Sweet! Real world testing of a soon to be released knife. Thanks for telling us about this. Any chance for a picture...

That's great. I like the way the polished edge contrasts everything. Have you cut anything that might damage the blade coating yet?

No, just some old web gear. I wanted to test out the serrations, very impressive.

I own more models/variations of the Delica than any other knife. Today I bought my second Delica 4; my first one is CE; the new one is SE.

For whatever reasons, in the 4 versions, I prefer the Delica over the Endura. Feels more comfortable to me. I'm in love with the new handle shape, it handles like a larger knife. I also like the reinforced tips, though I would have liked the primary grind to go up higher, like on the 3 versions. But I'm sure that's due to the holes being bigger, so the grind starts lower.

This new Delica 4 SE will be my serrated EDC. I also carry a Sebenza and slim SAKs.
