Thanks Nick.... With so many opinions and options I found myself up past 1:00am reading over threads. My wife said, what are you doing, I replied learning from those wiser than me.... :)

You did it great

In fact, you put a high standar to reach for your next buys :)

I don´t like tantos, and you`ll need to find if it will fit your needs or you`ll need another knife. It´s the fun part of the game!

Welcome aboard, by the way!

Sorry for my english :o

Thank you BETO. I suspect this won't be my last knife... I get the feeling reading all the threads here that these things are addictive! :D

I set the dollar limit because I know me.... Pretty soon the knife would be more expensive than my last tactical rifle. I decided no matter what, this knife was going to be under $60.00. With out this control I would have most likely got the Zero Tolerance ZTO400 pictured here....

I will see how I like the tanto style and then perhaps upgrade in a year or so.

If you like tanto blades and are looking to move up in the world of knives after some time with the Grip, I suggest you take a look at the Emerson CQC-7...when you are ready.

What is it about the tanto style knife that is problematic?

They lack a belly, which means that they won't slice as well other knives. They also have two separate grinds- the tips area grind, and the flat area grind, where the belly should be. This means that when cutting something, the slice is interrupted by the transition from one grind to the other. Sharpening the tip area will also be a huge pain in the ass unless you're good with sharpening stones. They also look a little more aggressive than other knives, and thus could get you some wierd looks from sheeple in your area.

HOWEVER- you did buy a Mini-grip, and can, if nothing else, know that you purchased one of the best folding, americanized tanto knives for the money out there.

Great first buy!

BTW- don't count on waiting a year to buy another knife. They start haunting your sleep, and won't let off until you but another one... it gets really bad, and you'll find yourself counting $200 on a knife that you'll never actually need a good buy... Good luck with that :p

You did great choosing a Mini Grip. If you like tantos, that is cool. I personally have no use for them, and do not care them.

Full sized, Mini, drop point, modified sheepsfoot, tanto, thumbstuds, oval hole, round hole, sabre ground, flat ground, hollow ground, S30V, 154CM, D2, black handles, green, blue yellow, tan, grey. You can't go wrong.

Well....I will try to avoid having buyer's remourse on the tanto style. :( Frankly I bought it on looks alone. Not always a smart thing to do with knives or women. I received a notice that the knife had already shipped or I would switch it to one of the other styles mentioned about.

Oh well...this was a good learning process. If worse comes to worse, the tanto can be relegated to my medic jump bag.
