  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Just bought my first strider. Is it fake?

Good call, PayPal will stand by you.... in future just ask the questions before you drop the cash. Good luck!

I am in the process of doing that now. At first I was like live and learn but the more I think about it the more it eats at me. If it were described accurately it probably wouldn't have been a big deal.

Did you ask the seller what was "rare" about it?

I think rare is a subjective term depending on who you ask... I think it was definitely misrepresented in the add.

I hope the OP can get his money back - that was a rip off IMO.

Once you get the knife, decide if it was worth what you paid. If you want to return it, contact the seller and advise him that the knife was not rare and that it has rust spots, if it does. If the seller does not want to do a return, go to the eBay customer service and open a case under item was not as described. Just don't use the knife. Don't try to clean it, just keep it in the condition that you get it in. Ebay has a money back guarantee on purchases. It just needs to be proven that what they advertised was not what you got.

1. Not a rare knife.
2. Rust not dirt.

Make no mention of the price as being over retail, as that makes it seem like you changed your mind. That is not covered. This is what you could do if you want to get your money back and buy a new knife. But will only work if the item was not as described or it is a fake. Ebay will cover you and refund your money including shipping.

Good Luck!

I will agree with the consensus: not new, not rare, SNG, refund. This should be a no brainer for Paypal to refund your money. Just cite how it was misrepresented as something it is not and shows obvious signs of use. Hopefully you'll get it sorted out quickly and be able to get a REAL new Strider. They're worth it.

What a seller puts in his description on Ebay is basically the 'Word of GD'.
If what you get is in ANY WAY different from what the seller described the product as - especially when it comes to condition - you will get your money back. I think at most you might have to go out of pocket on shipping to send it back to the seller, but the refund should come your way.

Just out of curiosity, and to play devil's advocate, won't paypal side with the seller and say "It's the buyer's responsibility to check if an item is rare" before bidding?

Since "rare" is a subjective term, what really makes it rare? Less than 1000 made? Discontinued?

From the pictures, I see spots on the blade. Did the buyer not see them closely?

From the listing it looks like the seller listed the knife as "new", but in the description he put "lightly used"...
Tricky situation in this case

PayPal isn't going to get involved and what's rare and what's not. What they do care about is if it's used but was sold as new.

No. What matters is whether the description matches the item or not.

Are the pictures not considered part of the description? Just looking at it from all angles...

It is - but the monkey wrench in all of this is that the seller listed it as 'new'...
I think the deciding factor is going whether or not Ebay deems the listing as misleading or not.

Just to update the seller is giving me a refund. I found a legit dealer and wen't and picked this up today. I am loving this knife.

Uh well it is a tanto, not necessarily rare per say, but hard to find in stock. They sell quick when dealers get them. It's up to you if you really want a knife and are willing to pay more for attaining it. Nice strider you got there in the end. I just picked up a tanto sng from monkey edge just listed and now they are out of stock and usually they don't get back in stock too frequently at all.

That one looked kind of carried and used, with surface rust. I would have paid no more than $400 in that condition. See it matters how much you like/want a knife, to someone else that knife is a $250 dollar knife but i would pay $400.

IMO ebay is one of the worst places to look for those kind of knives - especially high end productions and customs. Most of the time they're never valued or described properly.

I have gotten good deals from ebay in the past, but only on production knives under $200 and other uncommon (but not highly-sought) knives.

Much better! Now at least you know that's rare cos its numbered. Nice round one too. FYI the MARSOC SMFs were labelled as such on the frame as well. Just in case you want to pick one up in the future. ;)
