Just bought new red Dalton Offering, flaws/pitting in finish?

I just bought a new red Dalton Offering, from a well known large internet-based dealer, and as soon as I unpacked it I noticed what appears to be black specks, discoloration, and/or pitting in the finish. I tried to very gently rub and clean it off, but it made no difference. Is this normal? What should I do?

See the pics below. Pics taken with point-n-click in natural light. If needed, I can take higher quality pics with DSLR, super macro lens, more lighting.

btw, the blade looks perfect/flawless.

Looks like mildew spots to me. Try a Magic Eraser by Mr. Clean and see if that will clean it up before sending it back.

Blessings,

Omar

lol sorry, but I would have a lot more problems with the overall design of that knife than I would with some light staining. yeesh

Thanks for the reply and idea. i'll wait to hear back from the seller before touching it, but will ask the seller if I should try this before sending it back.

Yes, I realize it is a unique design. My local voodoo priest said I have to use this specific knife though when sacrificing goats to the Haitian voodoo gods.

I have owned a few daltons, and they are very well made knives. Sometimes though, the fit and finish isn't as high as the price. I would send those pictures to the dealer and see what they say.

Good luck with the goats, they can be pretty frisky

Thanks for the replies folks! :) I sent pics to the dealer and am waiting on a reply. fwiw, after examining original macro images, it appears to be both pitting and discoloration, so I don't think it can simply be cleaned off.

Update: dealer sent me a replacement that is good. He also sent me a prepaid return mailer for me to send the first one back in. Great experience. :)

Make sure you get your goat sacrifice zoning permit updated before you go doing anything stupid. :D

good deal.

it is a far out design,i own several daltons, they are a very well made ,centered, fast auto and sharp for ats-34 steel.

but the finish is spotty sometimes, but they are made to use.
