Just broke the tip on my 110. What to do?

That little tip loss I'd redo myself, but send it in and let Buck regrind/reshape the tip. Certainly doesn't look like it needs a new blade.

Buck repair serviceis top notch . Everyone at Buck is friendly and willing to help. Thank you to everyone at Buck Knives for all you do.

Thanks,
John

I'm sending this 110 off to Buck today. In the mean time I have purchased a Buck 112. I have never tried a 112 but I cannot wait until it arrives. I actually bought one of the 112 Founders Editions off of the bay.

Congrats on the 112 purchase. I've been EDC'ing a 112 for the past few weeks and I have started really liking it. Mine is a Founders Edition like yours. Hard to find a better knife for pocket carry for the price.

What would be GREAT is to have a 112 in a ti frame like the 560 (Hint Hint :D ). The 112 is a great little knife, but just a little heavy for pocket carry.

John

I'm not sure if I will like the writing on the blade of the founders 112. I may see if I can get it off. Maybe it will just come off with normal use. I also don't think that the 110 is too heavy for pocket carry. That's how I have carried mine. I never use a sheath. However, I am in talks with Gary W. Graley about having him make a custom horizontal sheath for me. His work looks awesome.

I just wanted to give a public thanks to Joe Houser and the kind folks at Buck Knives.

Joe please pass this along to the nice repair folks that took care of me.

Today when I got home from work I had a package from BKI waiting for me. It was a replacement for my 2005 Buck 110 that had a broken the tip on. I was blown away. I would have been very happy with a reground tip. I am super happy with this new 110. It's beautiful. There is just nothing like the freshly polished brass bolsters of a brand spanking new Buck 110 or 112.

Thanks very much Joe. I really appreciate it. You have really gone above and beyond.

I will get some pictures of the new 2007 (downward pointing arrow) 110 here shortly.
:)

I am sure that Joe is overwhelmed by the thought of someone telling him that they had mis-used a knife instead of telling him that the knife had been dropped on a carpeted floor or was being used to whittle soft pine that he had trouble getting his mind around it.

Don't be too quick to discount "soft carpet" stories. I'm sending my 110 in for repair of a broken tip caused by a short fall onto, you guessed it, a soft carpet. In this case it landed tip down, pierced the carpet and pad, stuck into the underlying plywood and pinged the tip off. :(

It's great to hear that Buck is still doing so well with the customers that it's grown over the years.

I'm pretty sure that my first knife was given to me by my father when I was 5-6 years old back in 80-81 and it was a 110 with a sheath. I'm pretty sure I still have it.... or at least it's around. I believe my bro has it safe for me.

Great to hear of the great work all these years later.

Congrats on the new knife man!!!

I'm curious as to why this knife broke doing such an easy task? I like my
110s but I'd hate to have them break in a situation where I was using them for real knife work? Could this have been a flaw in that blade or is this common?

I have done similar things since my 110 tip broke but I have done them with my 112. The 112 has not had any issues.

I guess the point is that knives are made for cutting. I shouldn't have been prying at all, even the slightest bit. I could have gotten a small flathead screwdriver instead but I was being lazy and had the 110 on me. I don't think it was a flaw at all. Maybe a flaw in the owner (me). :)

Messersmith,

I believe it's a entirely new knife. I though it was just the blade at first but the wood looks a little different than my older one. Plus the paper that came with the knife said "replacement".

Ok thanks, I was just curious. I thought they usually just replaced the blade and gave everything a polish, but I'm sure there was a good reason they send you a new knife!

Most busted 110 knives I have seen are busted tip. I think it's just the price ya pay for using a 110 as a pry tool. Certainly tips have broken for other reasons too. I busted the tip of a Leatherman clip the one time I decided to use it to poke a vent hole in a plastic five gallon water jug. A Buck failing doing that would be rare. Never replaced the Leatherman.

Sorry for the delay. I've been super busy. I'll get some pictures up of the new 110 tonight. Not sure if I should put them in this thread or start a new one.
