1750 rpm 3/4 hp motor from a band saw. Wired to be reversible with a 1 degree taper disc from Beaumont. Single phase so no digital control. Still I'm stoked and a good afternoon spent with my Dad.

Gary, I have purchased two 9 inch discs from Beaumont and I shopped pretty hard. I sold my 1 degree offset disc and now will probably buy another. I do not think that you will find a better deal than Beaumont and their quality is high. I just ordered a magnetic disc hub and two 2 interchangeable discs from Wayne Coe (The Blacksmith in Tennessee) who is the US dealer for this system designed By Neilsen in Canada. The total came to $396. Yikes. It is a neat deal though and I will buy more discs later so I do not have to stop and glue on new sand paper every ten minutes. Larry

Those are motor-rated switches and you have a connected ground line, right? I don't mean to ask an obnoxious question, but I've seen a ton of machine tools rewired with non-motor rated switches or missing grounds. After being mildly electrocuted by one, I always triple check when I don't see a standard starter/switch setup.

I agree with catalytic - get rid of those toggle switches:
Change the top plate on that box to a quad plate and put in a regular 15amp rated single switch and a two way switch. Wire the two way to switch the motor from Forward to Reverse and the single switch mas Off and On. That will only take 15 minutes and maybe $15......buy may save you a lot of woes. The parts can be bought at ant Home depot or similar store.

You will love that grinder.

Yes and yes. My Father is an Electrician and I always learn quite a bit from these projects as electrical is not a strong area for me. This is a great forum where people care enough to try to stop others from killing themselves. Thanks!

Thanks Stacy but I believe that is the way it is wired other than there is no use for the center off for the reversing switch. On/off on the left and forward/reverse in the right. These are 20amp @ 120VAC rated so I think I should be fine? I'll look at our wiring diagram again though for sure thank you. Maybe normal switches would keep crud out better.

Rob Neilson who makes and sells the magnetic disc grinder also sells the tapered discs as well as the hubs and thin flat discs. All are quality products as Wayne Coe will tell you. Frank
