So Friday I received my first contract to go to Blade. Ya Hoo! So of course this weekend I am so motivated that I am practically living in the basement working on stuff. Anyway, about 10 minutes ago I'm working with my Dremel 400XPR that is about 3 years old and suddenly FLAMES shoot out of the cooling slots then a loud POP and everything stops. So my question is this:
Do I go get another Dremel, or should I get a Foredom, or is there somethig else that is better? What say you?
Thanks in advance, Kevin

I bought a black and decker rtx about 5 years ago because of so many complaints about new manufacture dremel tools. I have yet to kill it, but my "replacement" for it is a 10 dollar Chinese special. I got the rtx for 60 bucks with accessories and a tool box, don't know what they go for now, but I'd buy it again at that price. If they were significantly more, I'd just buy two Chinese jobs and throw them away when they break.

I have never used a foredom, so I can't really comment on them, but I am told they are the cat's meow. Much like every other tool we use, I'm sure there is a quality point where it makes a difference how much you pay.

P.S. - cheap bits like stones and sanding drums are a different story, I always use the quality ones, you get tired of them exploding in your face.

I don't have the specks in front of me but I think there is a big difference in RPM?
Somebody correct me if I am wrong

Reading my post again, I want to clarify that I believe the foredom may be a piece that is worth paying extra for. A dremel tool, on the other hand, is another story.
