Sitting around with nothing to do, obviously, and I was just wondering how many female {ladies, chicks, babes, sheilas, girls, etc} members we have here. it took me 20 minutes to go with females although it sounds a little clinical. anybody know?? share it. later, ahgar

I asked this question here a couple of years ago (at the behest of my lovely wife) and was told in no uncertain terms that it was a "no-no".

I agree with cockroachfarm.

It's like why would you want to know? You looking to pick up chicks here on the forum? :D

I think it's a no-no also :)

I don't see anything wrong with the question. It is up to the ladies if they want to let anyone know. It is all about intent. If you are just curious, then there is no harm in it.

I didn't have any issue with answering the question!! I think it is a harmless question. I didn't sense there was anything else behind the question, other than curiosity.

I agree with you! I was just curious and so was my wife. But I was told, at the time, that my question was inappropriate. From what I remember, my question was triggered by the fact that I really LIKE to shoot with women - none of the macho b.s. involved that many of my male friends bring along. So I was curious about women who had more than a passing interest in knives.

You're not kidding about shooting with women though. I agree with that.

Guys can be way too "I'm better than you are".

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS PLEASE LET THIS THREAD DIE,
I meant no offense and certainly was not trolling for chicks, i overmarried so bad i almost got a nosebleed. I was curious because knives seem to be mostly a guy thing, in my experience, but I noticed at least a couple of females posting so i was just trying to satisfiy my curiosity. hell i even type fat and bald. so please no more posts on this thread and I apologize if I offended anyone this was not my intent. later, ahgar

The politics of this world disgust me... I don't understand how it is at all offensive to ask if there are any women on this forum who take a active interest in knives. Especially since it was asked in a polite and non trolling manner. Now I will let this die.

I don't think the thread should die. Everyone, not only women, has a choice whether to post or not. This is a forum right?

DeathbyCatcus, does your user name refer to the song "Saguaro" by the Austin Lounge Lizards by any chance? Song was based on a true event by the way.

Back on topic - I am not a female but have been known to wear frilly dresses when the weather is nice:D

ROFL no, I just thought it would be halarious to beat a terrorist to death with a cactus. That is crazy.

I'm also curious about the numbers of female members we have here. I'm a man and have been trying to get my mom and sister to carry knives in their purses; I made my mom a knife for her birthday this year, but haven't learned to make sheaths yet! :o It does seem to me that knifing is a male-oriented activity, but I also know that there are women out there who share the interest. Therefore I, too, am curious about the female gender's perspective on cutlery. For the record, I don't this this is an inappropriate question, at all.

My Mom IS who got ME started on carrying/ collecting knives in the first place, when I was 7 or 8 years old. (I am now 39.) My Mom also STILL carries a knife. I always have a knife on me. The exception being that when I am flying. I carry a knife because it is a useful tool, and is a last ditch self defense weapon. I can not tell you how many times a day I have a use for a knife!! Anyway........I am a proud knife carrying woman!!

This girl carries a min of three knives. And given the fact that I am married to Leatherman this is a small number.;)
I mostly post on the Busse and less frequently the Swamprat forums.
My daughter's knife collection is quite large also.

My understanding from reading about her is that Angelina Jolie is a knife afficianato. Have also read from previous posts that she is a member here also.

Absolutely. Maybe attitudes have changed a bit since I also asked this question many moons ago.

I'd really like to know a bit more about the female members of this forum - especially how they got interested in knives. (and my wife gave me permission to ask. ;) )

Found it! I just did a little search. Here’s my original post on this matter – posted April 14, 2001.

"Being a research oriented kind of guy, I'd like to know how many of our 10,000+ members are women? The best drivers I know are women, the best car salespeople I know are women. I bet there are some very knowledgeable female knife knuts (sorry, knife knuttes) around here that could teach us novices a few things without the BS, biases, and macho overtones that one or two seasoned knife GUYS bring to the discussion. Please let us know who you are and HOW you got into the appreciation of knives. Then, I can collect all the answers, print them out, and leave them where my wife can read them!"

One of the replies at the time (from not2sharp):

"The ladies are a very small minority on this site. We have discussed this topic before and have concluded that it is best to accept our members as fellow knifenuts and leave it at that. Gender, race, religion whatever adds very little to the discussion; and is hard to determine on the web at any rate. I am not sure you want to go down this road."

And my response:

"OK, sorry. My ulterior motive was to find out a little bit about why some women can appreciate knives, exotic cars, electronic gadgets, etc. All of which I collect and all of which leave my wife cold.

Moderator, please close this thread. Thank you."

So - has anything changed?

(sorry about hijacking your thread, ahgar!) )
