I had never really looked at Emerson knives before. I always thought they looked kind of goofy with the wave on them.
Well a buddy of mine got one (don't know model, tanto blade about 3.5 in.) and I can't believe how fast he can deploy that thing.
I was about to pull the trigger on a ZT 0562 now I am thinking I may go with an Emerson or the ZT 0620.
Do you guys know what model has the tanto blade about 3.5 inches? It was a plain edge with no coating.

You are correct, kryptek scales on that one. Standard model has black handle scales.

The CQC-7 is also a chisel grind. If you're not into chisel grinds, there is the CQC-7V.

Hey Sarge -

If you are asking about which ZT Emerson design has the satin blade and black scale, that would be the ZT0620CF - the CF version has peel-ply carbon fiber scale and solid titanium framelock. The CF version also has M390 steel. The ZT has a tanto but is not chisel ground, it is ground on both sides.

The CQC-7 is also a great choice, with the chisel grind, and you can get them partially serrated, plain edge , coated or not.

No his was an Emerson. I don't know the grind exactly. I just know it was tanto.
Personally I don't like chisel grind blades. So if I were to go with an Emerson it would need to be the 7V right?
The ZT I would go with is the 620 with the DLC Elmax blade. It is a frame lock. The Emerson's are liner locks right?

Yep if you want v grind the 7V is the one you want. I think it comes in tan handles.

The zt 0620 has two models. Dlc coatled elmax with a g 10 scale or m390 with a carbon fiber scale.

Here is the 0620cf.

Is that your 620cf?
How does it compare to the real Emerson knives? Build quality, fit, finish, strength?

Yes, it is mine. It is an Emerson design but it is a ZT knife through and through. Fit and finish is superb and it is a very solid feeling knife.

ZT and Emerson are both some of my favorite knives but they are completely different.

You just have to hold one of each to understand I think.

You need both! Lol

LOL yea I need a bunch of knives. I have quite a list that I have accumulated.
Like I said before I want a ZT 0562 as well. Would like a 0550, a 0350, an XM-18, a small Sebenza, now an Emerson or two. Just learning their models.
This knife will be my first expensive folder though. I have quite a few ESEE's and a custom Woodlore Bushcraft knife but I have never spent more than $50 on a folder.
This will be my only expensive blade I will buy this year so I want to pick a good one.

ZT makes a fine knife and I have many but nothing is like a original Emerson. They are the original tactical knife for a reason.

Emerson knives are light, efficient, strong, and effective with fit and finish that can range from 'good enough' to perfect.

The ZT made Emerson designs are heavier, made from better materials, with uniformly perfect fit and finish.

I dig the ZT knives, but the Emersons are ounces lighter and are great cutters, plenty strong and environmentally resistant.

My cqc7 was 5oz the new zt 0630 is 6.3 I think it is worth the extra 1.3oz...

I ended up going with a 0562 over the 0620 mainly due to blade shape. I think the 0562 is more practical as an EDC blade.
I will however get a 0620 when funds allow.
