Here is my 6 x 48 converted into a 2 x 72. I am using a Grizzly 10" wheel with shielded bearings. I have less than $100 invested into the conversion. Everything works and tracks really well. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!!

What size bearings did you use in the contact wheel? They look tiny. There was a thread awhile ago about boring out the Grizzly wheel to accept larger bearings because any bearings that would fit in the stock wheel would be too small and not hold up.

Thank you for the comments.

I am using 1/4 x 3/4 bearings in the wheel. I didn't want to bore out the wheel due to the fact that it is prebalanced and I didn't want to screw it up!! I wish I had the link to those bearings a week ago. I got mine from Grainger for $10 a pair. the motor is a 1-1/2 HP single phase motor.

As far as the back of the machine being used as a platen, that sounds like a great idea. but it is not currently set up to do so......

I like the conversion. Quite inventive.
I have major reservations about using a 1/4" shaft and bearings. I don't believe they are rated for the load they will receive. I would think with two sided support ,like you have, 1/2" would be a minimum.

I basically went off of pics from the kmg website. they use a 1/2" shaft with a single arm and I have never read of a failure on any forum thread. I went with what I could find at the time and the thought that with two mounting arms I could justify a 1/4" shaft. Of course everything is modified easily enough if necessary, especially with the link to the 1/2" bore bearing posted by polish avenger...THANKS!!!!
