All right guys, you all talked me into buying a trailhawk ( it wasnt that hard). So I finally finished modding it, for now anyways.

I sanded most of the black coating off and let it sit in mustard to give it a nice patina. When I cleaned it off it gave it kind of a goldish color which I thought was weird but I like it. I also gave the haft a blackened treatment of mud and then rubbed black spray piant into it kind of like you would rub stain into wood. Finally I reprofiled the blade and sharpened her up. She cuts like a beast now!!! Anyhow here are a few pics:

Mustard... where did you get the idea? I wouldn't have expected to get that kind of a look from it. Nice job on it.

I got the idea of using the mustard on this forum somewhere. Since mustard has vinegar in it, the mustard was supposed to give it a nice patina. I dont know why it came out the color it did, but I like it.

I also used the mustard on the other hawk in the picture and it came out totally different. I guess the mustard acts different with other types of steel.

Has anyone used picante or hot sauce? I have heard that some of the cowboy shooting crowds use it to antique their weapons.

I have heard of people using hot sauce and white vinegar to perform a patina, but I havent personally tried either.

nice hawks, i made a few this weekend with my homeade forge, not nearly this good though, i know there not homeade but i do like em
