Just finished up on my BK7.

Why remove the coating if its a user? What difference does it make other than making it more prone to rust.

Mine had less coating on it than pietje010's. There was plenty of bare steel that could have rusted. It is a high carbon steel but its not a '73 Chevy Vega. Its not going to rust out at the mere mention of water :p .

how about this handle modification!? Makes it very ergonomic and grippy. Very easy to make by just using sand paper and a metal-cutting-saw. It’s a user all-the-way so the saw job is done poorly but effective.

I like it, Pietje. I might do the same to my BK-7. It's interesting to note the handles on my Cinncinatti Machax are the same shape as the Camillus BK-7 but is much easier to hold on to - they must have used different material.

Very nice, is it for sale :)
I've been waiting to get one and I had a few websites bookmarked that had them a week ago and now it's like they vanished off of the face of the earth!!! I know they are no longer being made but I was hoping to still pick one up. I guess I'll keep an eye out on Ebay!

I saw one go for about $70 on Ebay last week and I thought to myself, "I'm going to hold out for a better deal." What a moron!!

yeah, If you see one, any pirce (within some reason) snatch it up, there so much more worth the price.

abiggs, ....

Were you referring to that brand new, un-used Becker BK7 that went for $63.00 on Mar 4th.

Nice job on removing the coating. You will need to put more maintenance into the blade to protect it from rust, but it looks great.

Careful use, while wearing the gloves Fonly.

i removed the black traction coating of my tom bown tracker but left it on under the the scales. because it was starting to rub off anyway from use,

i used a belt sander i also staind the micarta scales black.

Look great now!!!

I might take that Idea and sharpen the swedge, I actually never thought about doing that.

I only did that out of fear of a black bear attack. I have this illusion/delusion ? of defending myself against an attack. Although the clearer thinking side of me knows that a serious attack would likely leave me badly chewed and clawed, if not outright killed. At least I feel that I have a fighting chance with the modified Brute, as it pierces very easily now. My bear knife parameters were: length, width, thick blade. I wanted something that could pierce hair, hide, fat, muscle and still have the length to damage organs. If it wasn't for bears around here, I'd see no reason to carry anything more than a 4 inch FB and an axe or saw.

nice job of removing the coating btw!!!

I don't think that it was poorly done. I like it and think that it's a good idea. I'll probably steal your idea actualy.;) Thanks.

Look up member CRKS. Chestnut Ridge Knife Shop. He put a few NIB BK-7s aside and they were selling for $54.00 USD.

Another trick for BK7 stock slabs is sand them down an 1/8" (on each) on the flat sides. This may cause you to need some shorter screws, but it "thins" the grip. The overall thickness is what most people complain about.

Pietje, that is a great stock handle mod!!

Its a cool project. Its pretty easy to make a kydex sheath for it too. I really like my bk7.

Yeah, all I can say is im soo happy that I got mine before they were gone, now I need a bk2.

Easy Garth, I was referring to myself for passing up the opportunity to buy one.
