here's a simple hunter I just finished up, still working on the sheath. The blade sat in my shop for over a year before I finally decided to finish it. It was one of a couple of test blades forged from Aldo's 1084, before mixing with damascus to see how it performed. The other blade was bent and broken, this one I decided to finish out.

I mostly use 1084 for a damascus mix, but got to say it is easy to work, and does well as a knife. The finish on this was basically hand rubbed to 600 grit, etched, then a good cleaning with flitz. I really like this finish, polished, but subdued.

Forged 1084 5" blade, brass guard and stabilized white oak handle. The handle has a few bug holes, but there filled with epoxy and after stabilizing there's nothing remotely alive in them, but I though it gives character.

I like that! I'm working on my first dagger with brass and oak hidden tang too. It's pretty rough, but it's my first wood handle. What is the material between the guard and oak? Micarata? Rubber? what's the purpose? Decorative or seam filler?

THANKS!

Nice looking knife. Well done

Thanks, the spacer is vulcanized spacer material, saturated with epoxy. I don't always use it, but I like to use most times, especially with natural materials. It acts as a shock absorber and when the handle shrinks and expands as all materials do to a greater or lesser degree, it smooths the transition and gives a bit. Plus it adds visual interest.
