BTW, regarding your post, that is truly an outstanding #18 collection and in beautiful condition. How many of them have a compass?

I just happened to have a "period correct" white faced compass for my knife that I installed with a rubber gasket. Compass can be easily removed without damaging the buttcap.

LOL! Touche` Tom, touche`! I was going to ask if you'd be interested in trading for something, but figured you'd prolly decline, so passed (if, however, ever...well, you know.).

Did you notice the blade grind difference between my #18/15 and yours? A few of mine have compasses, but I've already restashed the knives, so until they come out again...

Here's one I missed out on the other day...sad day for me, they don't come along in this condition very often...

I'm going to hold on to this one for a while. I really like the clip point. Didn't you have an #18 with a Bowie style blade?

I hear ya, I'd feel the same way. As to one with a Bowie style blade, it's one-and-the-same as the knife in my original post. Maybe this photo from my book will show the difference a little more clearly?

Admit it. You saw me on your site ogling the #18 didn't you.

M'no, but ogling is ok, free too! The new knife has all the options - ST/NST grind, SS blade, knurled handle, compass, black sheath, etc. It's pretty darn cool... ;)

Awesome knives, the 18s are my favorites.

ETA: Picture of my one and only Randall a model 18 after making a fishing spear(let me know if the pic is too big and ya want me to resize it).

Cool spear design, thanks for that! Good to see the knife getting use as well...

Yeah that design works fairly well, if you wanna make one you don't really need to put string on the seperator sticks like I did. I just saw another forum member do that (pitdog I think) and figured Id try it to see if there was any benefit.

I haven't used another knife in the woods since I got that model 18, and Im in the woods at least 3 days of the week, so ya know it gets some serious use.

I just noticed the miniature. Wow!!!

Mack,

Glad ya like it, here's a better pic...

This one came from original owner Joe Castello, owner of Castello's Guns and Sporting Goods in San Jose, CA. Joe worked for authorized Randall dealer Nate Posner at the San Francisco Gun Exchange back in the early '70's. At the time, if you purchased three RMK fighting knives for troops fighting overseas, RMK would gift you one of these miniatures - this is one of those knives...

Stop in for a visit and I'll show it to you in person...

Shel

What kinda specs are you looking for? Specifically, be more specific... ;)

Wow to all those amazing #18's. If I were to pick one length, which size might be best for everyday user? General tasks. thanks Cadiz

Personally, I would go with this set up, which offers a practical 5.5" blade and no sawteeth.

I love the #18's with no teeth, very handsome knife when put together that way.
