Just found a VERY interesting Bear Grylls video

Heh... There are so many of those videos around.

In my opinion... It don't really matter, because most of us go out on week-ends and test our survival skills. we don't always have access to big land or being dropped in the middle of nowhere... fact of the matter is.. this guy knows his stuff... and is very knowledgeable. It's just up to us to filter what tips we can use in a survival situation.. cause I don't ever see myself climbing down a waterfall with a vine.

This is my biggest problem with the bear, besides him being a liar. He is not skilled, and he is not knowledgable, everything he does is staged and fake.

My favorite is the Rocky mountain episode where he made a friction fire. His hearth board has no notch to catch an ember was the first thing I noticed, then the camera cuts away and then comes back, the hearth board is literally covered with coals, they later admitted to scooping them out of an already lit fire. That is the same episode where he is ran out of the shelter that the crew built and goes charging into the night by a "Grizzly" that they later admitted was a man dressed in a bear suit. The man is a total fraud and is likely to get someone killed trying some of his stunts, he will do or eat anything for money, little better than a carnival geek. Chris

I have to admit to having been fooled by this series and Grylls in the past. You can't get away with that stuff anymore in the age of the internet and forums like this one.

I lost whatever respect for him I once had.

Aside from being uninteresting, this video and some similar to it, have been posted before. We all know Bear is a fraud and a complete hack. This is not, of course, to discount his SAS experience, etc. I have not taken the time required to verify his history. The show is purely for entertainment.

It's entertainment, pure and simple. The show is about shock value. "Eeeww, did you see what he just ate and washed down with a snake skin full of piss?" and "Omigosh! He just jumped into that leech infested pool of mud wearing a hat made of decaying goat skin!". I find it amusing in a light entertainment kind of way. The guy's an animal though, obviously in top physical condition.

I don't know, if he's not really doing it, the shtick gets old really fast.

I've heard that he was SAS which means he could kill me with his little finger but that doesn't mean much if the show is all faked. The entertainment value could be down right dangerous to some.

I know what everybody is saying and all.....but didnt the guy climb Everest like, twice?
He knows a little something I would suspect.;)

That said I think the show its really fun to watch, its more of an adventure show, than school type survival to me, but I agree with some of the above posters about maybe getting people killed. Someone that dosnt know any better trying to down climb a waterfall or use vines to decend a precipice or tons of the other CRAZY crap he does.

But really that just weeds out those lacking in common sense dosnt it?:D

I tell you what I did learn something on the episode where he jumped into freezing artic water on pupose to demonstrate the effects! There certainly are tidbits to be gained from watching Bear. You just have to use you noodle as to what can be educational and what is just for entertainment. Of course we really knew that already didnt we;)

I wont talk to much s@#t about the guy though Hes done alot and had a survival show. Im just a carpenter.

Would you just be a carpenter if your father was a senator, with lots of old money? Or would you be a globe trotting adventurer?

Bear has done a lot of cool stuff, I agree, although a lot of that cool stuff is a bit shady and controversial in of itself. My only problem is his idiotic show that is portrayed as a guide to survive and his lack of integrity. There are a lot of people that believe every piece of his stupidity and take it as the gospel. Chris

His show demonstrates what could be done if it had to, not what should be done, that is for sure.

His show is purely entertaining. However, he does have to know some stuff after being in SAS and climbing everest. I am a little surprised to see him doing all of the stunts he does after breaking his back, but..

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHhahahahahahahaha:D
Thats was funny as heII:p
:D

I don't know, did he? Or did he only show how it would be done if one really did do it? :D

Seriously though, where is that coming from? Show me proof.

I just googled it. So far, anything regarding climbing Everest is only from his website, referring to his book, or on a fan-based site. So...I doubt it. In related news, he lied to the news once and told them he took a para-jet over 29,500 over Everest. Of course, when they pressed him, he admitted he was nowhere near the mountain peak...

I really like the episode where he digs into a Zebra carcass, just dives in like an animal, no statements concerning bacteria or anything, just starting bitin' off big 'ole chunks,

yeah most of his show is staged, it's till funny to watch, like when he ate that HUUUUUGE grub, and .....POP! all over his chin, that was a good one, it's almost like watching Fear Factor again
